Graduation is often erroneously identified with an end product or goal, while in truth the term implies a transitional stage leading from one level of experience to a still higher plane. Consequently acquisition of the diploma does not indicate a termi- nal point in life but rather a passport to newer horizons and opportrmities. Whether one stagnates and remains static academically, socially or culturally will depend soley on that person's ability to formulate a philosophy of life. This philosophy can be an immature and egocentric one which makes I, my, and me the focal point of life, or it can be a mature one which considers oneself in relationship to so- ciety as a whole. I am confident that the class of '59 will not only enjoy the fruits of our democratic culture but will in return propogate the ideas of their heritage. The future is yours! Compared to the local grammar schools, high school seemed huge and unfriendly to us scrubs. Later we discovered how crowded we really were, Snow Ball Roll, our first dance, was a huge success. President in these trying times was Cecil Collins. SEPTEMBER 4, 1956 ' As sophomores, this was our year! ! We were the first class, in the history of Good Old Linden, that put on a hot-lunch sale. Under the guiding hand of mr. Nat Lane, our sponsor, it proved to be very profitable. We were happy to see the money roll in, because the Prom was only a year away. Our second dance Harvest Hoe-down really went over big. Jay Downer was our president. SEPTEMBER 3, 1957 Upperclassmen, WOW! ! What a feeling---To make more money for the Prom we put on a fashion show, Hana Za Kari fBlossom Timej It was the most successful thing other than our Prom Mid-summer Night's Dream. Bob Boggiano and Gloria Ferrari were crowned king and queen by Richard Whitlock, our class president SEPTEMBER 7, 1958 We made it--we are now mighty Seniors. Our first project was to liven up the rallies. With the help of i Rino Fanchetti, our class yell-leader, we really showed the underclassmen a thing or two. Our dance was after a basketball game, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Graduation is here now. We have completed our four years, we will always cherish those memories. STUDENT STORE Linden, does not have a cafeteria, so we have the next best thing, our Student Store, A Student Store manager is elected by the student body - her duty is to see to all the buying, selling and bookkeeping of the store. She must carefully check all the merchandise sold through the SIOIC. Students volunteer their time--to work in the store as sales people. They learn to take orders and give change. The Student Store's purpose is to sell goods to students during lunch. SHARON MERIAN Student Store, Manager 3 I' I S 9 and 0 7 9 9 L Cl L 6 JIM SWAN Girls just before registration at Student Building on Davis Campus Every year two outstanding students are chosen to represent our school at the annual Girls' and Boys' State Conference. 405 girls went to the 15th annual Girls' State Session, which was held on the State University Cam- pus at Davis. The session began on June 23 and ended on July 1. DELSIE CANEPA 826 Boys attended the Boys' State Session, which was held on the State Fair grounds in Sacramento their session began on June 21 and ended on June 28. The main purpose for this conference is to teach interested students about their State Government. The girls were divided into two different political parties the TORIES and the WHIGS. The boys were also divided into two different groups. The delegates form their own platform, and all elections are conduct- ed in the manner required by the State Election Code. Girls ' Leadership Con erenfre Each year several junior girls are chosen to represent Linden at the YMCA sponsored Girls' Leadership Conference at Asilo- mar. Last year eight girls were chosen to attend the 1958 con- ference, They were Sandy Mc- Donald, Helen Ueyama, Carla Raggio, Delsie Canepa, Diana Simmons, Jean Peralta, Susie Whitehead, and Lorraine Gen- etti.
