Prophecy of the Class of '50 On July 12, 1960, the class of '51 arrived in the great metrop- olis of Linden for their annual reunion. This was the first year since graduation from dear old Linden High, for it to be held in Linden. Upon arriving, we all checked in at the 29 Palms Summer Resort, owned and operated by Mr. and Mrs. Karl Moser. After having graduated from Purdue University, the Mosers had tested the soil around the old Hunsicker gravelpit and found it unsuitable for farming. Determined to make money off the land, they built their Summer Resort there. Mr. and Mrs. Moser, the former Joan Hunsicker, greeted us at the desk and turned the keys to our rooms over to us. Noticing our heavy luggage, Joan summoned the bellhop. As he picked up our luggage, we saw his face clearly. To our surprise, we found him to be none other than Arvil Denham, Jr. While escorting us to our rooms, we engaged in conversation with him. We found that after graduating, he and the former Mary White had decided to make everything definite and took the fatal step. We also learned that she was engaged at the resort at night too. Seems she couldn’t work all day because she had to take care of their ever-growing twins. June and Gloria unpacked our bags and decided our evening dresses needed a good pressing before the Reunion Banquet that night. We put through a call to the desk requesting that they send a wardrobe lady up right away. Living up to the Hotel’s slogan of Prompt Service , the wardrobe woman was there within a few minutes. Entering our room, she gave a cheery greeting and we recognized her as Ibbie Ritter. Collecting our dresses, she told us that she was still looking for the man of her dreams. Promising to have our clothes back in plenty of time she left us. The sun kept getting hotter and hotter every minute so Ed sug- gested we go take a dip in the cl 1 waters of the reconverted gravel- pit, now a luxurious swimming pool. After donning our swim suits, we made our way down to the pool. Walking by the pool, Gloria gave Margaret a friendly slap on the shoulder and she went splashing into the water. Gloria noticed what she caused and commenced screaming. The tall, blonde life-guard finally came to her rescue. After all the excitement had died down, Robert Harpel called to our atten- tion that the life-guard was none other than Dick Schaeffer. The next two hours were spent sitting beside the pool chatting with Dick and comparing notes on what had taken place in the last ten years. About three o'clock we decided to go to our rooms and rest before the banquet. We decided to call some former friends. Finding the telephone out of commission we sent Billy for the bellhop to locate the telephone repairman. Upon arriving Billy had brought back with him none other than Mrs. Charles Goode, the former Betty Figg. After conversing with her, there was a knock on the door. Pat answered the door, returning with two sets of triplets and one set of 28
