Acquiring ease in pronunciation, adeptness in usage, and proficiency in language structure, while time-consuming, brings sound knowledge and personal satisfaction. The modern languages, Spanish and French, acquaint students with the customs and history of these countries and develop the ability to speak the native tongue. Students of classical Latin find many opportunities to display their knowledge in medicine, law, and science. LANGUAGE DEPARTMENT FACULTY Upper Miss Marita Hogan Latin Miss Birdie I. To the girls in cooking classes, it's pure pleasure to make and taste such deli- cacies as pizza pie, jellies, and cookies. ln addition to sewing skill, the students in the clothing classes develop a sense of style and a knowledge of materials. In home manage- ment many phases of homemaking are con- sidered, such as planning a budget, making a weekly schedule, and choosing home furnish- ings. A Red Cross nurse visits the home man- agement classes periodically and demonstrates child care and home nursing. After they have participated in these sessions, the girls receive Red Cross cards testifying to the fact that they have completed the work successfully. To make the girls model homemakers, as well as charm- ing hostesses, is the object of every course in this department.
