Sylvia Detlaf, Gene Eggert, Williani Guhl, and Carol Hengst can identify many different plants since their work in the greenhouse brings them into clcse contact with various types ot foliage and tlora. IOURNEY TO THE STARS . . . With the help of the planetaiium model general science students study interesting phases oi astronomy. CHALLENGING THE ELEMENTS . . . Chemistry students Tony Mock, Edward lung, and Tkhomasine Smiley test the combustion of oxygen. SEEING DOUBLE . . . The mirror and lens demonstration in physics is conducted by Fran Hama f and Torn Hawks. Whether he is working in the growing room or in the laboratory, whether he is using helpful apparatus or resource units, the science student endeavors to find out more concerning the world around him. He investigates topics ranging from the anatomy of the earthworrn to the sources of atomic energy. At all levels of the science curriculum he explores the mysteries of the universe and learns to appreciate the contributions of applied science to modern living. I Page 23

History and Language. .. Iflhhcfo W5 on the World ABOVE FOCUS ON HISTORY . . . Movies that teach supply necessary information and add pleasure to class sessions as is evident in this photograph of S. history group. Reading and discussion are important in the study ot history, but modern inventions like the camera and television reveal a three dimensional View ot history that is unique. On the spot recording ot the historical panorama helps students keep pace with the epoch-making events ot the moment and develops an awareness ot the role of both stability and change in the growth ot nations. Familiarity with a foreign language opens the door to new interests and achievements. Learning Spanish, French, or Latin promotes good fellowship with people ot other countries and acguaints one with the culture and customs prevailing in various parts ot the world. To be able to speak or read in a toreign tongue is a very rewarding personal experience, as any language learner knows. OPPOSITE PAGE CONTINENTAL ATMOSPHERE , . , The pageantry of the past and the enchantment of travel have a special appeal for language students Marilyn Strobel, Arlene Steigal, Iames Hickey, and Tom Stoginski who are looking at articles from Mexico and France.
