Comm unica tion of Ideas The interpretation of the printed word, the art of creative listening, the development of written expression, and the ability to speak effectively are the four aspects of language study with which our English curriculum is concerned. Adequate growth in each of these areas is the aim of every student and the goal of every class in English. The clear expression of one's own ideas and a thoughtful evaluation of the opinions of others are accomplishments which always merit admiration. OPPOSITE PAGE LIBRARY BOOK FAIR . . . A center of activity for all departments in the school is the library. During National Book Week in November Open House was held so that everyone might become acquainted with the new books on display. BELOWfleft to right LABELING THE NEWS . . . Robert Krueger and Agnes Bures are learning writing skills in the Iournalism class where the elementary principles of reporting are taught to budding journalists. LITERARY MODERNS . . . Arline Iensen, Lois lenkins, lulian Reppelt, and Armand Dusablon compare notes in a senior course in English as they discuss fascinating novels of adventure by contemporary writers. SHAKESPEARE ON RECORD . . . Many enjoyable hours are spent by students like lerry Cohen and E listening to the great classics of English literature. THE SCRIPT CALLS FOR GOOD DICTION . . . Members of the Drama class emphasize correct habits of speech and ease of performance as they rehearse an amusing situation from a one-act play they are producing.

Their repertoire includes, among other things, the concocting of delicious cakes and the creating of lovely gowns. Home-planning methods which emphasize efficiency, economy, and good taste are introduced through actual experimentation in the Home Arts laboratories.
