On September 8, l9A5, nineteen wide-awake Juniors gathered in their home room of 303 to find awaiting them, Mr. Anderson, the school music instructor, who was to be their willing and able advisor for the year. We found on that morning that we had a new student, Doris Pederson from Deer Park, Washington, however, dur- ing the year we lost Doris and gained Jack Shimok. The class officers for the year were: President-Marie Ehlen, Vice Presi- dent--Bill Gross, Secretary-Roberta Schoessler, Treasurer- Bill Woodruff. The Junior boys took an active part in athletics with most of them playing on the first squad in all sports. The girls were also well represented in P.E., attending several Play Days in the season. Several members of the class took active parts in the All High and Senior Play. On April 6, l9L,6, a very successful Junior Prom was held. The gymnasium was beautifully decorated in Blue and White,,the theme being HSwinging On a Stern. Pat's Gang from Davenport fur- nished the music. ' The Junior-Senior Banquet took place May 3, l9A6 in the Home EC. Room. The room was beautifully decorated in a Spring Motif . The very able toastmaster, Bill Gross , introduced the speakers of the evening. Fifteen dignified Seniors marched with a stately tread into the room which was to be the last one in their high schooldays on September 4, l946. They found they had one new member,Walter Watkins, but lost him again within a very short time. Mr. Kadlec was their class advisor for the momentous year of their school career. Class officers elected were: President-Bill Gross,Vice President-Jack Shimek, Secretary--Dolores Seivers Treasurer-- Beth Scheeler . The annual Senior Ball was given on November 9, l9A6. The gymnasium was beautifully decorated with a white ceiling and blue stage. Blue silhouettes of old fashioned couples dancing the minuet were placed along the wall. The music was furnished by Duane Olsen and his orchestra from Medical Lake. The dance proved profitable to the class treasury and added to the listof pleasant memories during their high school days. The Senior Play HBig Hearted Herbertn a comedy wasprcsented on March 14, 1947, in which the whole class participated. The- Class Day Program took place on may 29. All the classes participated by presenting a skit. Baccalaureate exercises were on June lst,and Commencement on June Lth. We have enjoyed our high school days and hope thattheelasses in the future will enjoy theirs as much and be as prosperousas we were. ----Marian Giese UHSSUJIH I, Bill Gross, need every thing I have so am taking it with me. I wouldn't have been here, if my dad hadn't let me have the car keys. Funny how parents always know best. Took that one corner a little too fast, and Crash! When I woke up, here I was on this little white cloud with St. Peter looking dame. This is really quitethe life, but all my old class- mates of the Class of '47 are having wonderful times down there on earth. My other friends keep neinformed as they come up here, but I get most of my inforxation frorzthsdaihynewspaper,WHeavenly Dazen. Let's see new if I can remember what they are all doing. Scene: Heaven Narrator: Marie Ehlen Oh yes, there is Dolores Seivers--Shotgun Seivers, as she is known all over the country. .After graduating from High School, she took up hair styling, and has become very influential in that field. For many years she had the women of America in the dark, for it was her style to wear bangs down to the end of the nose. Her 'latest creation is the Sideswipe, and brother! From what I read, it is really sweeping the country. Eldon Dirks has just completed his first year of football coaching for the Ritzville High SehooL This is the first time in history that the 'BroncosW have gone through a season without scoring one point. But Dirks doesn't care--he's always had it in for them anyway. Cheer up, Boy, maybe next year sonethinigraders will turn out for your team! After 20 years of hard labor, Marialice Shimek has found a formula for making all men look like her high school ideal---Van Johnson. New the country is covered with a lot of freckle-faced red-headed sissies. Now that Marialieehas lost her love for Van, she feels that this formula is more of a detriment than an accomp plishnent.' Because she dislikes red-headed men,she is married to a brunette, and leads a very happy home-life. It is her hope in the future that some day shewiD.be able to rehabilitate the earth with manly men. Jennell Branson, the brass voice of radio, at last has landed a ggal contract on the air. He sings while Jack Benny plays his violin. Jennellhas come a long way in his singing I canremembor when he did a half-minute eommercialevery day with the Super Suds Quartet. Then he got a job pinch-hitting for Ben Lindburgh. At present, he gets 3lO'a week, and this huge sum is almost breaking Jack Benny. However, Jack likes Jennell, and it looks as though Jennell will stay with him for quite some time. In almostany magazine you pick ug you can see advertisements designed by Marian Giese. Marian only indulges in the simplist types of commercial artistry, and her products are very much in demand by all kinds of sponsors from whiskey to Ex-Lax manufact- urersg Three years after she graduated, she married her Business Agent, and he has become a valuable inspiration in her work. On June fifth,Jack Shimek and Bill Gross left Lind and never returned. Most people make big things out of little things, but they are making little things out of big things ---- pounding rocks in Walla Walla. Their themesong is'nl'll Be Home For Christmasn, according to their classmate lawyer,B.S. Woodruff, who is serving his l5th year of a 50-year sentence for helping them escape over a guard's dead body. That was something that Bill will never for- get, for he had the reputation of a good, honest lawyer before he fell out with these former classmates. Now, even though his chain is attached to the same ball as theirs, he hardly ever speaks to either of them. tHe is patiently awaiting the day when Jack and Bill are parolled, and he can have the ball and all three chains to himself. Joy Ann Teague has become one of the greatest Shakespearan actresses of all time. She had such a greataptitude for this type of work that she didn't have to study the full required length of time. Now she is just completing an 18-year contract with the Nu-Rex Theatre in Spokane. After many broken romances, Joy Ann finally married one of her co-stars. He is quite a bit older than she, but he has enough money to satisfy all her desires. Together they specialize in WRomeo and'JulietW. Their fame' is known all over Adams, Lincoln, Franklin, and Spokane Counties, and millions flock to see this wonderful production. Stan Klemmer spent the past twenty years trying to find some good farmland. Last week he bought ten thousand acres, and moved his farming equipment to the coast to set up his homestead. But lo and behold!! In his second hour of plowing, the tide came in. He was last seen sitting in six inches of water with a mermaid on his lap. Spike Jones has just come out with a new laughing record, featuring the smooooooooooooooooth giggle of Beth Scheeler, QThis new giggle platter is entitled UThe Giggelty Girln. Beth defys anyone to sitthrough this 35-minute recondwithomzhaving a nervous breakdown. Even Spike Jones is taking nerve tablets now. For a bad case of the blues doctors new recommend listening to this re- cord for five minutes. It's a sure cure everytime, On the side, Beth has published a book called NHow to Giggle in Five Easy Les- sonsn. Even though she has made a fortune on her giggle, Beth is considered the saddest person in america. She seldom smiles, has never married, and leads a very lonely life. ...-,H Roberta Schoessler and Reas Johnson were married one week after they graduated. Much to everyone's surprise, their marriage was a success. They are working together as the hottest jive team in the country. Their latest jitterbug creations are: The Guess What, The 7-8 Times Around the Henhouse, The Sacajawea Fling, and The Halski Rossian, or the Dance of the Red Death. They have be- come the ideal of every youth, and the headache of every parent. Well, I guess that includes all fifteen of us. They really turned out to be a swell bunch of kids after all, didn't they? Really, it's about time for me to be drifting off. So long for now. I'll be seeing you -------------- or will I?????? ---Marie Ehlen SENIOR W The Annual Senior Ball was held on November 2, l946 at 9:30 P.M. in the High School Gymnasium. A large crowd ofboth formally and informally dressed couples danced beneath a beautiful false ceiling of white. Dark blue silhouettes of Colonial Dancers de- corated the walls. On the stage, blueand whitestreamers and pale blue silhouettes presented a lovely background for Duane Olson's Orchestra from Medical Lake, which provided excellent music for the evening. Everyone attending had a perfect evening and the Seniors netted ffBl54.?55, which goes to prove that the Senior Ball was a real Success. --Jennell Branson MSS HWUHRHL The need for new stage properties became evident to the meme bers of the Senior Class as they participated in many dramatic activities. They saw that the old davenport was not reliable and was upholstered in a very unattractive color. They therefore de- cided to purchase a beautiful blue sectional davenport. It is of modern style, and the color willgo well with almost any stage set and costumes. A set of rules was drawn up by the executive conf mittee to go with the davenport and we hope the future classes in L.H.S. will respect them. To avoid the handicap ofalways borrowing a lamp, the Seniors also bought a suitable floorlamp for the Drama Department. At the end ofthe year therewas still money left in the treae sury, and they donated theremainder tothe fund for Band Uniforms. All the Seniors are proud to make these contributions to the Drama and Music Departments, and hope they will bring pleasure to the classes of the future. -+Jack Shimek n-, gl: SWUH WH iOn the evening of March 14, 1947 a large crowd attended the prcduction of the play WBig Hearted Herbertn, a comedy in three acts, produced by members of the Senior Class and under thaable direction of Miss Gertrude Krehbiel. The Future Farmers of America, or HF.F.A.H as it is commonly known, is the national organization of, by, and for boys studying vocational agriculture in public secondary schools under the pro- visions of the national vocational Education Acts. The F.F.h. is an intra-curricular activity having its origin and root in a definite part of the school curriculum--vocational agriculture. Among other things memberslearn through active par- ticipation how to conduct and take part in a public meeting, to speak in publicgto buy Lnd sell cooperatively, to solve their own problemsgto finance themselves and to assumecivic responsibility. The foundation upon which the Future Farmers of America organiza- tion is built includes leadership anicharacterdevelopment sports- manship, cooperation, service, thrift, scholarship, improved agri- culture, organized recreation, citizenship and patriotism. On October lOth eighteen members who had been regularly en- rolled in the Agriculture class got together in the Senior room and organized an F.F.A. chapter with Mr. Evans as adviser. The newly organized chapter was very interested in different means of making money. as a result it made a large profit from the turkey raffle held in November. They also sold pop during the basketball games and held a successfulschool carnival on Feb- ruary li. lt is hoped that before the year is over we will be able to have a smoker with a neighboring town, and also sponsor a public dance. The first annual F.F,A. father-son banquet was held on Jan. 29th with 59 memoers, fathers, and guests present. A delicious dinner was served by the freshman Home Ec. girls after which a varied program was enjoyed by all present. AH award is to be made each year to the outstanding member of the chapter. The parts were portrayed oy an all-higischool cast under the direction of Miss Gertrude Krehhiel. The story took piece in the Wood's houe,in Lynhrook, a small town in the Middle nest. The action revolved around Penny Wood and how she grew up over night, and Chuck Harris and the trouble he had with his glider. Dr. and nrs. Wood and nr. Harris, al- though used to tronole with their children, snticipoted further difficulties when Mervyn Roberts come home from college. Between Penny, who believed shares in love with Roger Ven Vlech, thc young man Mervyn brought hone with hin, and Chuck, who tried to get his glider up, with the help of Elmer, the hood's humorous handyman, there was never o dull moment. When nervyn was trying to nuke a good impression on Rogen he was usually embarrassed by Effie, the Hood's housekeeper and her not-too-polite-manner. Then there was Milly Lou, a problem child from next door, who was always tagging Mervyn. Julie Harris, Mervyn's girl, impressed Roger so much that Mervyn found himself without a girl. On the night of Mervyn's hone-coming party, Chuck finally succeeded in flying his glider. Julie decided that Mervyn was the man for her and not Roger. In the end, Penny found Chuck wus Upretty niceu and decided that perhaps she would be on actress instead of d writer. Penny Hood... Chuck Harris.. Mrs. Uood.... Dr. Hood ..... Elmer Tuttle . .
