The Lancer Golf Team enjoyed their best season record of Llncolnvlew history 26 3 with a I3 I league record which won the Northwest Confer ence title They won the League Tournament and placed 3rd at the Delphos Invitational Then came the sectional tournament which brought both good and bad news. The bad news was that after struggling to a 4th place tie, they were beaten out in the playoff and stopped further tournament play. sfeotr Randy Evans brightened things up for the Lancers though as he had the second lowest score of the day which enabled him to advance to district play. Mr. Rohrs said that he was disappointed because of all the returning letterman, but that all the players worked hard. He also expects a strong team next year with the top J golfers back, and is expecting the younger players to fill the spaces left by seniors. To the left, Junior Scott McCleery shows his style which enabled him to remain top golfer on the Lancer team. The reserve had their best season ever where they won most of their games and ended up with a l5-I season record and a 9-O conference which helped them capture the Northwest conference Championship. For the victory over Ada which handed the Lady Lancers the Championship and te K-4' 4 -I l 3 f let the Bulldogs to settle for runner-up honors, the girls and Coach Lautzenheiser celebrated in the locker room by giving the coach a shower with his clothes on as a surprise but he knew about it from an inside source so he had dry clothes to change into. But unexpectedly they had a water bottle fight in the Allen East locker room where he was drenched and had to remain so until after the varsity game. So the reserve season ended very successfully and rewarding. The Varsity Girls were involved in a parents' night at the last home game against Ada. The girls ordered long stem carnation flowers for their parents who were honored at this special occasion. The coaches also received flowers from the team. Gn December 3, I979, a new club was formed. With the help of Ms. Rozevlnk. our Spirit Squad was formed. The main purpose of the squad was to support school spirit. With the help of the Athletic Boosters the squad was able to take buses to the boy's way basketball games. To boost each person on any type of team the Spirit Squad appointed Spirit Angels to decorate lockers. So halls became brighter and spirit was higher. So in the upcoming year we're looking forward to having a bigger and better Spirit Squad. il kgwfgp-ru. Row I- Cindy Fisher, Terri Noggle, Meidi Putt. Janice Hammons, Lori Evans, Penny Klinger. M , 3... , ,,, Ji f,' -J'-Q. byrr -A xr g ye mining -Ahlff' These pages were to be devoted to the top news stories of Lincoln- view. but we discovered that there was only one real story. On January ll. l98O, the Lincolnview High School Gymnasium roof blew offl At approximately I p.m. on Friday. there was a large rumble throughout the high school. At the same time. power and electricity were cut off. A short while later. Mr. Shade ran through the halls instructing teachers to take their students to shelter. These areas were used: the basement hall, restrooms on the first floor. and both locker rooms. Everyone was anxious to know what the noise had been. They found that the roof of the gym had been raised by the gush of wind. Pieces of roofing had fallen back on the top of the building - which ex- plained the rumble. After approximately one and one-half hours. everyone was told to return to their seventh period classes. The wind did extensive damage to both the gym floor and the roof. One large piece of roofing had fallen in the seat incline. large pieces of tar were lying in the parking lot and on cars. and there were live wires lying beside the building. Students had to leave the building from the south doors to get to their cars, because of the dangerous wires. Some cars were damaged: a car window was shattered. car grills were dented. and one student's car tire was punctured. The power in the building was restored at 5:30 p.m. Athletic events had to be rescheduled: Friday and Saturday night basketball games for that weekend were moved to Van Wert, the tri- wrestling match for Saturday was moved to Van Wert also, and the Athletic Boosters' soup and sandwich luncheon was cancelled. Other activities that were supposed to be held in the gym for that next week were either cancelled or rescheduled. They have also taken various field trips to such places as the Starr Common- wealth where they went swimming, Lett's Rollar Rink where they went skating. and they have also went to the bowling alley where they all had an opportunity to learn to bowl. One other new activity added to the class was bike riding. This year the Athletic Boosters purchased a universal weight machine. The machine has five different stations: includingt a leg press. a bench press, a military press. a leg machine. and an arm press. The machine is used by athletes of all sports and has safety features built-in the weights so that there is less chance of iniury. The weight machine is very useful and will benefit our athletes in the years to come. . 2 E Z' Sz s E mmfwwwtf ...mmf M . . ..., Skis The winter sports were supported well by the pep assem- blies that were given during the season. There were special assemblies for each sport to give them spirit. We had seven throughout the year plus a bonfire Cpic IJ to start the year off right. Satomi Nishimoto hails from Kakogawa, Japan where her father operates a sock factory. She has l sister and 3 brothers. Living near Van Wert, Satomi found the size of our town to be close to that of her own. but with a much smaller population. ln school, she participated in the Ohio Scholastic Achievement tests for Advanced Math. and the Maumee Valley Civil Engi- neering Test held in February, receiving lOth. Satomi also served as a member of the volleyball and track teams. While in the United States, Satomi resided at the home of Lloyd and Nellie Edwards. Upon returning home, she will complete six months of high school education. then continue in her schooling to be an English teacher. Satomi told us that the two things she will remember most about her stay here are the many friends she has made at Lincolnview, and the 3-hour long volleyball practices every night after school Maarit Nordblom found many surprising differences between Ohio and her native country of Finland. Lakes were replaced by farmland, and public transportation by cars. lt's not that we don't have cars in Finland, she explained but when gas is over 52.00 a gallon, riding together makes more sense than driving alone. Maarit's father is a computer telegrapher for the government, and her mother works at the post office in her home town of Turku. where her brother and sister live also. When she returns home, Maarit still needs to finish two years of school, M year of that time for exams! After her graduation, she hopes to go into foreign languages or nursing, Her activities at Lincolnview include track. Junior Achievement, and l.incolnview's representative in Algebrail tests, where she placed 5th in her' division. Maarit's host parents were Rayeand Florence Bates. Maarit listed her favorite memories of the U.S. as the new foods, places andfaces she 's encountered, all with much enjoyment. Patrick Anderson did not stay long at L,H.S., but he still found time to compete in Cross Country and Basketball before 'moving on to Mansfield for the year's completion. While in Van Wert. Patrick stayed with the Harvey Thatcher familyg We wish. him the best of luck now and always. . Although these exchange students will be returning to their homes in Au- gust. wewouldp like .them to know that they will not soon he forgotten. ,Through association with them, all of us have increased our understanding of different countries and customs, and discovered. as the song says, It's a small world after all. ' ,fr-if U25 Wm 1: osin V Q. fy! 'I 5 Tlf Now it's over - the i980 Lancer staff has successfully met and overcome many challenges. Lost pages. ruined copy, and the ever-dreaded deadlines scan now be forgotten tif possible? as another year draws to a close. Looking back, the things I will remember most as year book editor are the many changes here at Lincolnview. Organizations such as the Spirit Club and Scholastic Bowl have boasted our school spirit to a new high. Good Citizen- ship and Teacher of the Year Awards set new goals for us to strive for. Lastly. Parent-Student Exchange day gave everyone involved a chance to see how the other half lives while benefitting both. These new opportuni- ties will hopefully continue to grow and expand iust as The Lancer Reign has grown and expanded in the past twenty years.
