VVe learned the wav around the building, or at least from one of our classes to the other. Then we slowly became an organized group. VVQ put ourselves under the leadership of Carl llhvne, and continued to plod our wav through the first of four glorious years. As Sophomores, we no longer were handicapped by the title Freshmen and we could feel a little more important with a younger class following closely behind us. This was the year that we carried the daisy chain for our beloved Seniors and Bachel Shelton served as president. Then came our year as juniors. Bill McCullough Qapably led us onward on our trek. VVc proudly or- .lered our class rings, and burst with iov when they ,arrived soon after Thanksgiving. Also, we took the IVoIf. our school paper, upon our shoulders and pub- Pizge Eighteen H I, Paul Mundy, will mv band uniform to anvone whom it will lit. But no way could we end the year more successfully than by hon- oring the Seniors with our junior-Senior banquet. Then, with our final days at dear ole L.I'I.S. in sight, we pulled the curtain on our third wonderful year. But the next fall we found ourselves much too busy to have any worries. Immediately we elected our offi- cers and PINE BURR staff. With Rachel Shelton again guiding us as Madame President, we successfully passed through many various activities. We sponsored the Fall Carnival, selected invitations, published our an- nual, and staged the Senior Play. flow swiftly the days have flown, and now as we come to the last of many steps, we glance back and see that we have spent the four brightest years of our lives here and with hope we look forward for many more shining ones. CLASS PRCDPHECY CJF1952 As I attend a reunion of the class of '52, I am verv much surprised at the progress that mv classmates have made since ole L.II.S. davs. Bettv Ballard reallv has been doing well in the newspaper business. She is now editor of the New York Tribune. Appearing in the paper have been rnanv articles on our Lincolnton gang. In the sports column we read of ,lerrv Mullen. a professional golfer, and ,Iimmv Carpenter, who has iust taken Herman IIickman's place at Yale Universitv. I am proud to sav that we have some famous radio and television stars from our class. Bob Campbell, radio disc iockev, plavs rnanv of Rameth Richard's and Shirlee Line- berger's famous records. Grover Baker invites us all to watch his television show. The Hour of Beautv, on which appears Miss Gilda Iglmore, Miss America of 1954. Bobbv ,Ioe Tisdale has reallv done well as president of the Dupont Textile Industrv. Among his rnanv secretaries are Nancv Cronland, Frances Gregorv, jo .Xnn Iloke and Ramona Ballard. The Dixie Grocerv Companv has ernploved rnanv of our friends, among whom as secretaries are Grace XVhitesides, Garrie Heavner, Linda Smith and Sbirlev Long. Thev emplov Dwight Saine, Dale Goins and Bill XVehunt as truck drivers, who deliver groceries everv Thursdav to Bobbv Baker's grocerv store in Bessemer Citv. He seems to be doing rather well. Manv of our classmates are emplovetl bv the goverrrment. In the Air Corps are Patsv Caskev. Bettv Biggerstafl. lilsie Painter, Ilarrnan Lackev. Bob Cloninger. and Gordon Martin. Enlisted in the Navv are joe Goode, Brrddv Goodson, Earl Mcxalister, and ,Iohnnv Miller. Onlv one of our bovs, Glvcle Mace, had gumption enough to be a iet pilot. Martha Goffev, Norene Stamev, Barbara lfortenberrv. Pat Grigg, and Inez Mosteller are airline hostesses. XVonder what theV're after? Thev couldn't have gone along just for the ride! Sue Jane Conner is a flight nurse. Shirlev Keener, Nellie Leatherman, and Bettv Saine, all telephone operators, were telling me that jim Rarnseur and Bettv Snipes have gone to Africa-Bettv as a snake char-mer and Jim as her guide. Thev were also telling me that Marcella Johnson and lileen Drum have become famous interior dec- orators. I can't imagine how thev found out about all this! I was verv happv to learn that the Maunev twins, james and Iohnnv, have reallv hit the top in the United States Marine Band. Jim Starnev and Paul Lail are great rivals in the electrical business. How are vou and Sue QSmitbJ getting along, Paul? Ravmond Graham, Don Kevt and XValter Broome have become prettv successful as engineers. Ravmond has as his secretaries, Pattv Ilovis and Alene Brown. Don's secretaries are Kathrvn XVright, Nancv llurev, and McGretta Lowe. VValter's are ,lean and lane Reinhardt and Ocie Fave Rlrvne. Ierrv Leonard and Paul Mundv have reallv struck it rich. ur should I sav, have struck oil. Now thev drive Cadillacs. Speaking of rich people, ,lack Benlicld and Billv Baxter own a chicken farm on the Reepsville Road. Mack Ganipe is working on the farm. He and jack just can't seem to separate. Well, whom should I see Louise VVarlick talking to but Phvlis Conner, who has six children, and Nancv Buff, who has five. Thev were discussing their children. All except Louise, that is! Speaking of children, Glenda Keener has four of her nine children. VVonder if all of them will be football plavers? ' Valda Babb has three brats and has nine to go. She believes in the saving, Cheaper bv the dozen. VVhom should I see huddled in a corner but David Keener, Max Elmore, Reginald Hurt and I. D. Shuford. all talking about mechanics. All of them are talking at the same time, so I will not stop to listen. As I look across the roorri, I see Iirmintrude Grigg and Doris Ellis talking to Patsv Mace and Ifrceda Bost. l7or a minute I thought ther were cralv, as thev were making motions around their heads, brit I soon learned that thev were beauticians and thev were describing the new hairdo's. XVhat a hair-do! Evervone is interested to hear that Grace Goodson and Barbara Daves have been getting along well in the business world. Grace is a dress designer. anl Barbara is her commercial artist Speaking of designers makes me think of jerrv Pavseur. who has been in Detroit designing automobiles. Leslie Rudisill, Eleanor Seagle, and Patricia Rudisill have become directors of religious education. Ifootball coaches from our class have been plentiful. llenrv Revnolds and Paul Conner are at Georgia Techy Glenn Xvarren, at the Universitv of North Carolina: Ralph Tavlor and Bill Iiaker, at The Citadel: and David Goodson at kVest Point. Some of our classmates carrie back to Ole L.ll.S. Garlerre Seagle is an eleventh grade English teacher' and Bettv Bvers is teaching twelfth grade linglish. Margaret Cline is teaching piano in Miss IVelmore's ex-studio. and Marv Ramsev is now the band director. llugh Peeler is enioxing his work as bovs' phvsical education director. while .Xnnctte 'lliornburg is happv with her work of girls' plivsical education director. Speaking of teachers, .-Xnne Yoder and janet Nlavo .ire teachrng hrstorx in Newton. Rachel Shelton and Barbzrra Proctor are teaching in lligh Point. Rubv Hovle has proven to be a good recreational director. A number of our classmates landed in IVashingtorr, D. Q., with government jobs. Bettv jean llelms and Tom Rudisill as l'.Il.l. agents: Georgette kkieavcr, fingerprint cvpcrt, Pat Maunev, private detective: Bill McCullough, State Department of Ilnited States Government. As usual, Dan Cupid alwavs claims his share of the class. Sliirlev Parker, Marilvn Crowell. Shirlcv Garpen'cr, jeanetie VVilliams, Marv Ilolfman, Geraldine Sain, Doris Maunev, jovce Bvers, Angeline Bradshaw, Barbara Bvers, and Missie .Xuton are rnaking comfortable homes for their husbands and children. Geraldine llart, who is so successfullv practicing dentistrv, has as her assistants Joanne Moss, Marcene lluss, and Ravnell Lawrng. Iler private secretarv rs Glenda Starnev. Bettv Jean Beal, Louise Grigg, Margie Neill, Bonnie Pav' seur, Nellie Sue Averv, and Garolvn Burgess are serving in foreign countries as Red Gross nrrrses. Pbvllis Beattie is Superintendent of Nurses at the Baptist llospital in VI'inston Salem. Svbil Llovd, Marv Ellen UK-ritl, Bettv Brown Crotts, antl Lucille Smith are doing private dutv there. It is nice to know that Bovce Long has become world famous in the lield of psvchialrv. In time he will probablv meet manv rnernhers of his class as the strain ol' life over- takes them. XVe notice the ambitious Hoivard llefner is still lugging groceries for the .X 8 P. llrs enthusiasm rs at the same high pitch brit his steps are slower. You can now get vour prescriptions evpertlv lilletl bv Dr. Ihornas Keever at the new Keever Drugs Gonrpanv in Gastonia. john Senter has become successful as a Gertiliecl Public Accountant rn Charlotte. VVell, the time has linallv come for me to take one last look at all mv classmates leaving with orilv the memorx of the wonderful times spent in this grand school that wc are so proud to call ours.
