I've been having such a wonderful time talking' to all my class- mates, that I hayen't realized it was growing' so late. Everyone reluctantly agrees that again parting time is here. And so, as Shirley l'offey, renowned pianist. plays the school song, and as Betty Kincaid, Metropolitan Opera star. leads in singing. the voices of nearly 100 classmates and friends ring' out eyen as they did ten years ago. Only this time the voices are richer and fuller, expressineg a quality of hope and confidence in the future. Yes, it has been a very successful reunion, and now we must again go forth and take our places in the worldethc class of '47 marches on. Doms C'Rowi:I.1. A few steps are takeng and then, as if some magnetic force were pulling them. the entire class turns to look upon Lincolnton High School once more. As they stand the1'e, their thoughts wander back to the year One Thousand Nine Hundred and Forty-three. That was the year they beg'an their studies in old L. H. S. On a Sep- tember morning of that year they had gathered to join a class, to work, laugh, and play together. Some were a little frightenedg some were eagerg some, timidg and a few were confused and probably bored. Soon they were organized into a Freshman t'lass with Bobby Turner at the head of the crew. Most of the group worked faithfully and were thus declaied Sophomores the following year H94-ll with Edgar Rudisill as their President. They were becoming more a.nd more a part of the school. The climax of their Sophomore year was the carrying of the traditional daisy chain for the beloved Seniors. How well they remember 1945. They were jolly Juniors with Jane Grigg leading' them. They were assured that they had been successful in their Junior activities. The Junior-Senior banquet had been a great success. Sufficient work had been done on the Il'o1f, the school paper. The rings they had chosen were still among their most treasured possessions. The goal for which they had so long been striving was almost reached as they became Seniors. Murphy Cronland directed them through many difficult situations as well as through many happy ones. During this year they had to select invitations, sponsor the Fall Carnival, stage the Senior Play, publish the annual, and perform many other tasks. Tears dim the eyes of each graduate as he stands looking' at the school that has played such a grand role in molding his character-the school he entered, remained within for four years, and must now leave. He lifts his head high and looks to that leader of all leaders. He prays: Lead me tas I add to my historyl, whether the future be dark or whether it be bright. Help me to make Lincolnton High as proud of me as I am proud of her. Svisii. I,iNmsr:nci:R, Ilistof-mn.
