CLASS HISTORY As another year passes, we turn again to our annual and come to a page called History, A history is usually considered a long com- plicated book, involving dates, countries, and famous people. In this history l will name only a few famous people, few dates, and no specific country. September, 1941-At last we have reached the long awaited time, our first year in high school. We are a frightened, self-conscious group of timid freshmen. We are eventually organized with Albert Huggins as our president. This year we work hard to make our- selves a part of the school and to help in its progress. September, 1942-We have advanced a step in our long climb to the top, and to help carry the members further, Peggy Costner heads the class as president. This year we carry the daisy chain for the seniors. As we pick the once lovely Howers to the accompaniment of a steady downpour, we wonder if we really are considered part of l-. H. S., but when the chain is made and we march proudly down the aisle we know that we belong to the school. September, 1943-Jolly Juniors! This is the year of the Valen- tine Carnival and the Junior-Senior. Officers are elected and Oscar Elmore is chosen to lead the class through this busy year. This time we are successful in all undertakings. The Carnival gives us money to prepare for the Junior-Senior. Such fun everyone has this year- hammering, drawing, and painting and even more after we finish with the work. This year will live long in the memories of the Juniors of l944. September, l944-Through hard work and hopeful minds, not to mention the hard work and generosity of the teachers, we have reached our goal. We are now Seniors. With John Stamey to direct the remaining group, we try to make our last year the best one. We have our invitations to select, our Senior play to choose, the annual to publish and last, our graduation. This is the year we will all remember fondly in the future. Many of our classmates have left us, some to fight for us and our country in order to pro- tect our future. As we start to take our places in a new and exciting world, we look back, maybe regretfully, but confident that we have done our very best. Though we leave L. I-l. S., many happy memories remain in our hearts. PEGGY MARTIN RHODES, Historian. Ihzqe lizghtwn
