N 'rms 11 INIS BURR -aay,f.,,g,f Senior Class History One September morning in the year 1932, one hundred and eighty-two boys and girls started on a perilous climb up the moun- tain of knowledge. Our trail led through a dark and dismal Fresh- man forest. Here we struggled with stern studies, encountered and overcame the deadly Latin monster, though some were frightened by the Algebra reptile and fled in despair. Finally the forest became less dense, and ahead of us we saw a slight clearing. We had reached the Sophomore rocks and soon we found it was going to take more courage and more work to clamber over them. There were nice round English rocks which were no trouble for some of us to tread, but often the slippery French-covered stones put us in distressing positions, and many unfortunates slipped down the mountain-side, They could not make the grade. Soon. however, our hopes were renewed, our spirits strength- ened, for ahead we saw that our path was winding up through the beautiful Junior heights. We found that our view had become wider and more beautiful. There were many little springs of enlightenment, where we stopped and refreshed ourselves. Our strength was renewed also for we easily overcame in an honorable combat some fellow travelers called Seniors, who were more learned and powerful than we. But, Oh! the joy of perceiving in the distance the Senior Sum- mit. l-low thrilled and happy we were to know that our goal would soon be attained. ln order that others might profit by our experi- ences in the quest for knowledge and in order that we might keep intact the pleasant memories we enjoyed, we published an annual. But soon the time came for us to climb the tower of graduation and as we looked out over the land we had covered, our eyes grew dim as we thought of our glorious journey coming to a close and of the goodbyes we were so loath to say. This evening, we have in the studio. many of the members of the class of '36 of Lincolnton High School. Lincolnton. N, C. Several years ago, our distinguished pianist. Mildred Hardin, was a struggling senior, but now she is engaged to Dr. Max Holland. who is a skillful physician and surgeon of New York City. Who do I see coming into the studio, but the All-American football stars. Ed Johnston, John Leonard, Steve Barineau, Glenn Beatty, and Glenn Heafner. Folks, last week. when I stopped in Albany, I chanced upon Louise Britt, Pauline Ewing, and Louise Eunderburke. operating a beauty shop. By the way, Louise Eunderburke isn't mar- ried yet. When I kept an appointment with Lawyer Harvey Jonas, on the same day. I met Stella Hoyle, his private secretary. We talked of old times and I found out that Bill Sigmon was play- ing in an orchestra of one of the best-known night clubs of Albany. I was surprised to learn that Berge Beam had advanced from Mayor of Albany to a New York Senator. I went to a lunch room where I saw David Robinson counting out the money. Victor Cashion is now manager of the leading newspaper of this city. The best reporter of the staff is Cynthia Reinhardt. Other reporters are Betty Modlin, Edna Thomas, and Grace Costner. I hope that our most popular crooner, Conway McGee and his accompanist, Doris Band are listening in. for they have an appointment to fill next week. Y, Jack Rudisill. C. B. Phillips, and David Heavner, the fun-makers, are broadcasting from this studio every Friday night. C. B. has recently been hired by Fox Studios as a double for Stepin Fechit. Well. well, look who is in the adjoining studio. Barnnie Eleemanf The last time I saw Barnnie, he was being chased by some movie actresses. Vada Cauble has been selected as the most perfect model of New York. Among the socialites at the opening of the grand opera were Margaret Jane Childs: Van Buren Ewing, well-known librarian: Mary Self. head of the Social Department of New York. and Paul Rudisill, Secretary of Treasury. NEWS ELASHES The famous scientist, John Mauney, and his party, J. R. Lineberger. Yates Campbell, Lester Barkley, and Garland Goodson. returning from a survey to South America, were among the passengers saved from the wrecked S. S. Oceania, last' night. Dr. Alfred Costner, teacher of Pharmacy at Davidson College, lectured at Columbia Uni- versity yesterday. Thelma Jenkins will perform on the stage at the Reca Theatre tomorrow night. She is well-known throughout the country as a tap-dancer. The ambassador to Japan, Mr. James Porter. will leave for that country next week. Virginia Lineberger, professional basket-ball player, made the packed stadium at New York go wild over her excellent and perfect shots. Nookie Cloniger will be glad to oblige any customer wanting a dog. JUST PLAIN NEWS Misses Dorothy and Ethel Bradshaw, workers for the state. will speak at the Armory Auditorium tonight.
