We started at once with steady tread The mountain steeps to ascend. Each fleeting day new tasks were given, And learning's fire we'd tend. Still we worked together, still We Journeyed on, Until at last we've reached the top- Our High School tasks are done. Together now we all look backg We scan the days gone by. As though on wings the hours have flown The golden days gone by. The parting time is now at hand, The bravest heart to try. As each classmate we bid adieu Alas! the tear drops start. Dear Lincoln High, our love for you Is locked within each heart. -LENA JOHNSON, PORK Senior Class History Back in the year of twenty-five there entered the threshold of this sacred institution a rather wild looking and shy acting crowd. This group of worthies was the freshmen. They were looked upon by the rest of the hard working students as scrubs and treated a whole lot worse. When they merely ran down the halls or were seen skating' on the smooth door they were jerked to the otlice and scared stiff by the principal. Neverthe- less, they pulled through their first year and thought they were uit. Then came the second year with the knowledge that they were in High School and that some day they should be like the Seniors whom they now so highly honored and respected. They now began to see what was meant by ' class ring, diploma, privileged character, the annual and all the things that pertained to their seniors dear. Then after another winter of toil and slavery they entered into spring with the newly found joy that were to carry a daisy chain for the dignified persons that they had loved and admired for the past two years. As the grave steps in commencement took rise they were giving the Sophs their first feeling of scholar responsibility. It was taken seriously to see their old pals and friends leave them but no worry of tears being shed need be brought to the front. A few of their own number were left behind that year but that did not stop this gay crowd for now they were moving up. They were to be juniors and a new set was 'tup there now for them to follow. Then came the feeling that comes to all juniors once in a while. This is what made their hats get tight and their ears hurt from the strain. They had the swell head. After they went through the rough a while it was again back to normal and real work started. They must prepare to receive the seniors and all the dear teachers talked about was the Junior-Senior recep- tion. At last they were up on a level with ones they had always looked up to. After the big throw went over came the time for another solemn and serious ceremony. The President of the Seniors was to lead his class down to the sacred altar to receive their diplomas and then came the ques- tion of Marshals. Finally the desired persons were chosen and they con- ducted themselves in a manner creditable to their class. Then vacation came and they prepared for their day. With September came their hopes and joys. They were Seniors! Now they were to be Page SI.X'lLl'Il?I't'L' looked up to. honored by others, allowed special privileges but the fact that they had to be dignified was the worst of all. During their last year they met strange thingsg they had to pose for their pictures. They brought money for nothing they knew of but in a few weeks came results. The glad news of the arrival of the rings came, and they got their proof pictures to pick their best from. This kept them very busy until preparations for commencement began. The fresh little Juniors were to give them a glorious reception, and then to help them graduate from the dear old school where they had spent four happy years. The invitations were chosen and all the plans for Commencement com- pleted. Finally after the last few happy days of school the Seniors grad- uated. The sorrow of leaving their old High School forever was the only thing that marred their happiness during these last few hours together. So as many classes before them, the Seniors left the High School and took their places in the great outside world soon to be forgotten by the underclassmen who pressed on with the same old battle-cry VICTORY, GUY HARRILL, Hisforiaiz. 293 5553223 Page SIIXIL1-ffltll' .A 1 1' . What changes have been wrought since last we met. Vividly do I remember the day the class came here and made a wish for the future. But I forgot to make my wish-'it was ever my ambition, my great desire to cast my lot in with my school, dear Old Lincolnton High. as a professor of mathematics, and my dream has come true! My desire is to make the study of geometry one never-ending path of joy to all high school students so that they may have as easy a task as I al- ways experienced in the year 1929 in room 22, as Mr. Kelly tried so ha1'd to prove that parallel lines never meet. The shock of this statement proved too much for the enterprising Gluck and he promptly expired. fClass sings The Old Oaken Bucket. l How dear to my heart are the scenes of my childhood, When fond recollection presents them to view! The orchard, the meadow, the deep-tangled Wildwood, and Ev'ry loved spot which my infancy knew: The wide-spreading pond, and the mill that stood by it, The bridge and the rock where the cataret fell: the cot Of my father, the dairy house nigh it, And e'en the rude bucket that hung in the well. The old oaken bucket, the moss-covered bucket, the iron- Bound bucket, that hung in the well. CURTAIN KATHRYN SEAGLE.
