Cdtoreword As I sat musing, looking into the far future, suddenly the veil was lifted and' I saw an old man, whose head was white with snow of many years, totter- ing to his library, and what does he look for? Shakespeare, T e n n y s o n, Burke, American History, Ancient, Modern? None of these. But he takes out a dust-covered volume, THE PINE BURR-Annual of 1926. How dear to his heart are the scenes of his High School days at Lincolnton! The eyes, though dim, reveal the light of other days, and backward Time has turned in its flight as he turns the pagesg he is a Lincolnton High School boy living and loving again those golden days of 1925-'26. Vlorixsox is our able and eHicient superintendent. a true friend, a wise and faithful counsellor of the students of Lincolnton lligh School, whose love and respect he has won by his constant personal interest in our individual problems, and his close cooperation with us as a student body. We the Class of W26, appre- ciate his untiring efforts that have led us through our years of High School and have prepared us for the future. PAGE TEN Principal MR. Gexosroxii is not onlv our principal. but he is our basketball coach as well. He certainly believes in the old niaxini, XYorl4 when you work, and play when you play, and though he does not allow any foolish- ness in his classes, he enjoys fun as well as any of his pupils. lf you do not think so, just observe him at a class party for he is a good friend to us, a good pal with us, and a very capable teacher. 5o6?2'fi?i?o6?vi?'??f56P2fl7if?Eio?2i?ts?o6924?55foo?Qil?S?7o6?2iZ?H?o65W65B6J52i?sff36J52fZPtSgB SQQQQ itil. Miss Anthony has repeatedly flone this and yet she has our love anrl respect. .Ns our chief librarian all her work is characterizecl by cheerfulness, thoroughness, anfl etliciency tof course, it is unclerstoocl that only Carter's ink is usecl in the library, on account of Miss .lohn's preferencel. Long after we have been graduated. we will remember the splenmlicl training our belovecl lfnglish instructor gave us. MISS LEAI-I STANLEY Stowetl away in the hearts of every Senior, there will he the treasured re- nieinheranee of Miss Stanley, our Latin anfl lfrench teacher. Smith lbetter known to his football squad as lllock l to us from Guilford College, for is he not our biology wizard? He is strict but not too strict, since he has won the respect and admiration of all the boys as well as the young ladies. and we hope L. ll. will be so fortunate as to keep him many years. MISS ANNE GREY In spite of the fact that she has been here only a short while. by her win- ning ways Bliss Grey has acquired many friends. She is accomplished. attrac- tive, and very talented. She is an expert typist. has an unlimited knowledge of bookkeeping and shorthand. and has a thoroughly charming personality. We feel fortunate to have her as our commercial teacher. MISS ELIZABETH HOKE Bliss lIoke. our very capable athletic coach, has been with us but one year. In this time she has won the love and respect of every girl in the athletic associa- tion. She led the girls' basketball team through a most successful season. Her ready wit and overwhelming vitality convince us that Bliss lloke is sure 'nouglif' We will long remember her as a capable teacher, an excellent coach, and a true friend. MR. H. H. MCKEOWN BIr. Blclieown is one of our most highly esteemed teachers. Ile is not so strict as most of the faculty, but preserves order and his classes respect him greatly. llc is the lligh School math teacher. and we hope the incoming Fresh- man class will be fortunate enough to complete their math course under his instruction. MRS. LENA WEST BIrs. XYest is another one of our teachers that we have had for only one year. but we feel that we have had her longer. for she is our friend. XX e all like her and hope she will remain in Lincolnton lsligh School a long, long tune. MISS MAUDE HALL 'llhere is probably no teacher in the entire High School who is as generally liked as Bliss llall. Her sweet disposition and charming personality with a slight sternness, tempered by her fun-loving nature. endears her to all. Lucky will he the man who at last claims her for his wife, but right now we aren't will- ing to let her leave I.incolnton High School. They dance and caper before the cave, but stop, listen as if frightened as voices sound out- side. As the voices draw nearer they retreat to the bushes at the side of the cave where they hide, peeping out now and then. The sound of voices grows more distinct and presently two people enter at the right. .Xs they come down the stage they are seen to be an old woman and an old man. lloth are handsomely dressed, suggesting prosperity and comfort. To Sarah Coon we attribute the honor of being the most talkative and nat- urally enough the biggest pest. Our most stylish member is Margaret Lee, who at the same time ties with Leila Self as the most entertaining. I'm quite sure that no one can dispute that Sue Klauney is the cutest of our class. Even though Evelyn Erwin is the biggest flirt it is agreed that she is the most in love. flow happily this will work out, since she is also the hottest-tem- pered, is for the future to decide. ls it not singular that he who is the biggest bluff is also the luckiest? Yet, these characteristics seem to lend success to Lindsay Ilunter. Blanche lllanton is acclaimed as the brightest student and of course, being the faculty pet, naturally follows. Certainly the most sensible and most ambitious must be accredited In Kate Robinson. Had you ever been greeted by the wide grin and cheerful hail of our Cow- boy you would undoubtedly agree that Clarence Wilkinson is the friendliest Senior. Sweetness of disposition seems to be generously scattered throughout the entire class since Irene lleattie, Uvella Duncan, and Annette Rudisill are all given this honor. 6?56?XX?5dXW56Mk5B6?W5B6Mk?55B6?Xk5B6Mk3B6MW56?Xk556MX?5 i . hi'-l RiWffg3a5':i7iil Qllf lt is a strange fact indeed that Hob Dellinger and Sue Mauney, our largest and smallest members respectively, are also the most athletic. lndependence is a characteristic of our entire class but Estelle Cornwell and Annie lrluss seem to excel in the ability to stand upon their own feet. Kathleen Mullen is the most studious, while she and Xlfilliam Xlfingate are rivals for the title of most bashful Seniors. David XYarlick has the undisputed title of loafer, however, he is the hand- somest boy. Flva Deitz seems to be the man-hater of the class and compares with lack Shuford, who is the woman-hater. Our most talented girl is Sarah Yoder, who vies with Eva Holly as the quietest member. ln spite of his awkward name of Hippo, Forest Shuford wins out in polite- ness, wit and originality. Cracefulness is an outstanding feature of our class in which Leila Self and -lack Ramsaur excel. Sarah Coon is the heartiest laugher but is ably assisted by the giggles of flelen 'Thompson and Katherine Rhodes. Since sarcasm has proved true of Ollie Mae Keever and Fannie Sharpe, we must give to Pauline Edwards and Robert llarrill the honor of being the most out-spoken, Although not voted the handsomest, Loy Self is unanimously acclaimed class sheilc. As Juanita Proctor and Russel Carpenter have a peculiar talent l'm sure they'll some day be silver-tongued orators for they have the gift o' gab. Last and most insignificant is your humble servant who is acclaimed the most attractive and prettiest member. l hope they don't consider her beautiful but dumb. -Viva LEE LINEBERGIQR.
