6 SENIOR CLASS HISTOIKX' ln all its history the Lineolnton lligh School had never admitted such an array of freshmen as crowded Io her doors in the fall of nineteen lnindredt and twenty. liorty-five Itoys and girls were entered to hegin their long and weary clinih for that magic day called gradration, when all their trials and pleasures in high school would he over. XX e had come through our grammar grades with flying colors tinostly green! and had now entertd high sehool with that same adjective applied to us. XX e found, within a few days of our entrance, that our old friends t il, lunglish and Xlath. were still with us, and also made new acquaintances in the form ol' l,atin and Seience. ln spite of the fact that we had to work hard, we managed to have a verv de' lightful time, and when vacation came. we could not analyze our feelings to the extent ol whether we were glad or sorry. The next year, our sophomore, we were amply repaid for all the hardships we had suffered the year li-gforegfor were not we now in a position In exert our authority ovel' the freshmen? lXs was to he expected, our studies this tertii were harder. hut that new feeling will dignity and the hearty cooperation and friendship of our sister class, the seniors, helped Us through. .Xnd so another year flew lty. increasing our love for the l,incolnton lligh Svhool. XX'ith the taking up of our Wlunior studies, we also tooli up our rivalry with the Fenior class. 'llllis was regarded hy all of us as our most enjoyahle year in high school H11 the good times we did have? Not to mention the junior-Senior ltantniet. ln th -tse tew short hours we forgot all the weeks of suspense an-l hard worli that we had experienced. .Xnd will wenders never cease! XX'e lnnried the hatcliet and forgot to he rivals. tXt the end ot this term there were tio doulwts in our heartsfwe were Heuumelv sorrv to see the year draw to a close. P- . . XX hen we were organized in nineteen twenty-three. we realized with a thrill ul pride that our ranks nunihered thirty-four, the largest senior class ever enrolled in the l,ineolnf ton lligh Sehool. .Xs a class we have had our joys and sorrows. oui' struggles and trirmphs, line til these words is In he applied to the holiday we received when unsuspectetl genius suddenly . . . . . . , showed itself among us in the torm ot unknown artists who decorated our ltuildine' m 't most alarming and conspicuous manner. N 1 tif course, we felt in duty hound to secure and use all the senior privileges that we had heen hearing and dreaming ahout for three long years. To our surprise and chagrin tlze faculty. and others coneerned.- did not always agree with our wise judgments. and we wtire often forced to yield a point-it is hoped as gracefully as was becoming to our dignity. 4 Now as the time draws near for tis to leave old high school forever, when our jour- ney is almost at an end. we depart, promising our unending loyalty anr the years to come.
