I e«° »rv Manning the picket line were (L-R) Mr. Caldwell, Mrs. Thomas, Mr. Taylor, Mr. McIntyre and Mr. Klimkowicz. On the left is Mr. Bratton who served hot coffee and tea to the marchers. Teacher Strike Lasted 6 Weeks Do you remember the teacher's strike in February? It lasted 6 days. Teachers went from the classroom to the picket line on Friday, Feb. 26, after negotiations with the Board of Education broke down. The issues were wages and a mandatory career ladder which the teachers felt was being imposed upon them by the administration against their will. Then the school hoard announced its plans to keep four high schools open during the strike, including Lincoln-West, to accommodate the seniors. Principals were to be used as teachers. Many teachers arrived at the school before 6 a.m. to man the picket line. Wood scraps were burned in barrels and hot coffee and tea were poured into cups to warm the marchers. On the first day of the strike, Ken Queencr, a senior, showed up at the school to drop off a homework assignment to his science teacher, Mr. Klimkowicz. “I just want to graduate and get on with my life,” he said.
