To be truly creative one must explore various feelings and various techniques for expressing their creativity. At Lincoln West we are fortunate to have two fine art teachers, Department Chairman Mr. Richard Andres and Mr. Ibrahim Levy. Their creativity and patience seem endless. This year the Art Department had 3 student teachers Laurie Hononzy and Naomi Levy (yes she is Mr. Levy's daughter) also Tom Halko. Mr. Andres is hoping to receive a Super 8 movie projector to add to the camera and splicer equipment and the art department is looking forward to a program in Movie Making. ART DEPARTMENT 15 One of the largest and most successful departments at Lincoln West is the Business Education Department. Here are a few good reasons why it enjoys this distinction. ••••••• ••• ••••••• ••• ••••••• •••••• ... ... ••••• ••• ••••••• ... ... ••••••• ••••••• ••••••• ;;; ;.. ••••••• ••• ••• ... ••• ••• ••• ••• ••• ••• ••• ••• ••• ••• ••• ... ••• ••• ••• ••••••• ••••••• ••••••• ••••••• ••••••• ••••••• •••••• ••••• ••••• There has been an increase in enrollment in the Vocational programs. Single period classes are available in bookkeeping office practice, shorthand, general business, typing, business English, vocational sales, business law. There are work programs in Cooperative Office Education, and Distributive Education for those who qualify. Vocational classes also belong to the OOEA (Ohio Office Education Association) This organization provides contests throughout the city, state, and nation in each area of business education. Last March Lincoln West participated in the Regional Contest held at John Marshall, South and Bedford High Schools. We had several winners. First, second, and thrid place winners went to Columbus to participate in the State Contest. New people to the department this year was Miss Doris Vollmar in Accounting Computing. Traditionally Home Economics has been thought of as the classes which teach you to cook and to sew. No! my firned that isn’t necessarily true. The 1970’s look adds new demensions for example MEN that's right the males of Lincoln West are part of a Batchelor Living course with Mrs. Day's careful guidance they learn to cook and sew, among other things. Under the directions of Mrs. Picard there is a work study program called CHEChere students earn and learn infields related to the food industry. There were holiday treats with a Christmas Boutique--parties for children. It was a busy year for the Home Economics Department but for all a most satisfactory one. rv INDUSTRIAL ARTS 34 INDUSTRIAL ARTS INDUSTRIAL ARTS 35 With Educational administrators putting an ever increasing emphasis on Vocational Education the Lincoln West Industrial Arts Department is also developing and expanding each year. This year there were ten different subject areas for Students to choose from. This is one of the most complete programs in the city. With the addition of Mr. Eli Prince to the staff, the numbers of teachers reached twelve. This year many of the Industrial Arts classes were very pleased with the early placement of students in half day jobs. The school job experience is very important for students who are not planning to go to college. These vocational areas are Auto Mechanics, Machine Shop, Electricity, and Vocational Printing. Other classes arc Mechanical Drawing, Vocational Maintencance, Hydraulic and Pneumatic training. Mr. links. Department chairman and of course, the rest of the staff hope for an even greater expansion of programs in years to come. This year the rallies had a totally new and professional look--and everyone but everyone had a good time. Remember The Dating Game Steve Harvey was Mr. M.C. and four of our handsome wolverines were matched up to four real lovelies (ugh). Hey don't forget Let's Makes A Deal when Mr. Kal-brunner helped out in making a real deal. Kay Kay Barns was the mistress of Ceremonies and did one fantastic job. Pepettes, Girl’s Leaders many many people helped make it happen. Of course, the skits were only part of the fun and festivities. We had Mr. Yanculeff and the Band getting the crowd in the mood. Then there were the Spirit Gals who got everyone in the spirit mood--and let's not forget the WOLVERINES who had everyone filled with Pride. If next year is any better perhaps the Rallies could go on the road. Social Studies is that area of learning that deals with the world and its problems and man and his problems in that world. Since the world is constantly changing the views and problems change too. Courses like World History, and Social and Economic Problems try to make students more aware of what is happening--today. There is Advance Placement History for the adventureous and ambitious student. Speaking of changes this year at mid term Lincoln West found that Mr. Masek was to retire In his good natured way he told everyone that he looked forward to enjoying travel and his grand children. Takinghis place as Department Head is Mr. Paul Balser we all wish him and Mr. Masek well. In addition to the traditional languages that are taught at Lincoln West Mr. Mucha and Mrs. Na-konecznyj aje in involved teaching the English Acculturation Program. They help students from other countries to learn the English language and become part of the whole school program. During PrideExpo Week students from other countries and students from language classes gave the school a glimpse of the food, dances, customs of many other countries. In a time when many things in education are chang ing it is good to know that languages remain an im portant part of education. This is die first year for Co-Ed sports and next year, Mr. Charles Bilardo, Department Chairman, says the program will include Co-Ed swimming in addition to Co-Ed Bowling, table tennis, tumbling, badmitten, physical conditioning tennis, horseshoes and softball. The accent is on Life Time sports activities which have a carry over value so that the knowledge will be used or can be used later in life. Incidentally in case you haven’t guessed the Co-Ed program was a very successful one. The Girl's Leaders are under die leadership of Mrs. Irene Fri-mel, and the Boy's Leaders are under the direction of Mr. AI Rodriquez. L-W boasts three separate libraries and it is broken down into one for each class. Mr. Joseph Lendurskis and his assistants are constantly re evaluating the volumes on hand to insure that students have the best possible material to work with. Within the libraries concern much outside of class learning could not be done and students would lose out. The library is an integral part of schooling and the entire student body salutes it. LIBRARY 49 The Photographic Society is one of the most exciting new clubs at Lincoln West. Only three years old, the society is growing all the time and no wonder with such attractions as the production center and facilities for developing film at the students' disposal. Under the leadership of Miss Betty Long and Mr. Joe Len-durskis the club is fast becoming a self supporting organization by selling their wares to the public. Students are becoming near experts in the field of photography and it could prove invaluable in their later lives. Hats off to this fine organization. 50 LIBRARY to Evte Lasting Like Books A) Mrs. Alter B) Mrs. Fountaine C) Pam loy, Fred Stafford and library staff I) Mrs. PiUiy F) Brian Justice, Bob Watson Rich Unman G) Photographic Society with Miss Betty' bong Mr. Boyle and Mr. Lendurskis PHOTOGRAP1UC SOCIETY 51 Science is for everyone. In today’s world of scientific endeavor there are many and varied fields that attract the student as well as the teacher. Mr. Watson takes a group of eager young students to the Washington Park Horticulture Center where they grow and finally arrange an assortment of floral arangements. For those students interested in the world about them. Ms. Ruth Moore explores the environment so that tomorrow's adults will better understand how to live. Mr. Brady's students can be seen doing any number of strange experiments in the halls and classroom for Physics. Mr. Cassidy and Mr. Von Benken are busy looking for new formulas in the Chem Lab. We have on loan two teletype machines and one coupler which are tied into Case Western Reserve's Computer system. These machines along with our H P 9100 A Calculator are now housed in Room 320. There is no doubt that this is where the action is at Lincoln West. Mrs. Johnson chairman of the math department cautions that the use of machinery in the teach- ing of mathematics is not new and while is proving very helpful it is time consuming. Of course, the study of math without machinery still makes up the largest part of the school program. Those old standbys such as Algebra, geometry. trig still challenge students every year. For those students planning a career in business and related fields there is business math. Remember Euclid is not just an avenue in Cleveland to everyone. MATH DEPARTMENT 55 Congratulations to the Class of 1975, the class of Champions. This yearbook clearly portrays in both pictures and words your individual and group efforts in a variety of senior activities. It serves as a reminder of the part you witnessed in the history of Lincoln-West. There are many additional events that escaped the camera and the printed page, but are present in your memory of the past three years. As you look at this book or gather in groups at future class reunions, be proud of your school and the memories of friends and activities these past three years have affored you. Counseling is not just a matter of knowing what classes you will take, but rather what classes you should take. Lincoln West is a school that has many programs to offer students either academic or vocational, or business, what ever area you find your interests lie. Mr. Chura and Mr. Lewis held a job Day Program, where employers came to school and interviewed students for jobs. We are happy to say they were pleased with our students. Mr. Kane assisted in the Honors Day Assembly which every year honors those seniors who are outstanding. New 10th Graders had a series of tours of the departments at L-W and the courses that are offered by them. Counseling is a key worf for a student's future. Our counselors carry the key. Our J. V. ’s weren't first on the scoreboard, but they were first in pride and determination. G) Don Hopkins H) Carl Dooley I) Coach Freilino, Coach Mussulin J) Guess What'! There are many reasons for the success of this year's WRESTLING TEAM. One of the main reasons is that Coach Mussulin and Coach Freilino pushed the wrestlers into a hard working team. Through their dedication and determination to win they developed a winning attitude. This attitude was that they never gave up and never stopped pulling for their teammates. Pain is the price a wrestler has to pay for greatness. They prepare mentally and physically for each match. Sometimes it was pure endurance and the will to win that got them through the match. Boyd Taylor's leadership qualities led the team by placing first in the Senate and 2nd in the Sectionals. Seniors who will not be back are Boyd, Carman Sottosanti, Paul Wyatt, Don Hopkins, Jorge Pena. Next year the Grapplers will be back stronger than ever. 78 WRESTLING a Under the leadership of Mr. Tom Morrill this year's SWIM TEAM took on a new coach and a new record. The team swam to a 5-5 season, an improvement over last year. Their are great expectations for next year. Hopes for the future of our swim team look very promising in sophomore John Saari. This year we lose seniors Laurie Lunter, Brian Dietrich, Craig Zignati, Gary Robinette. As the runners cross the finish line they are given a slip of paper which has the number corresponding to the position they placed. The top 5 men from each team are taken and their position numbers are added. The low score is then the winning team. The 74 75 CROSS Country team set three goa Is for this year; to beat Rhodes, to beat Fremont, and to beat Marshall. They went on to succeed in defeating Rhodes and Marshall. Our team placed in the positions of 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, and 13th. These positions when added, amounted to more than Marshall's 25. While they came close to achieving their goal and deserve credit for a better than average season it was not quite what they had planned. Often it was like facing an army, as in the meet against Benedictine when they were outnumbered 3 to I, but our team still set records. AI Kusiakiewicz broke the school record of 10:31 making it in 10.24 on the Highland Course. Being In second and third place most of the season our men just kept coming back. In the season finale the Wolves conquered perrenia! champs St. Ignatius 49-48 in the loser's gym, our first victory ever on that court. In the city title the Wolverines fought and played on even terms with the taller East Tech team for almost the whole game. The Scarabs put on a spurt in the final 2 minutes to give L-W a heartbreaking 65-58 defeat. Most dreams give up and die jftcr a defeat of this caliber, but out team just wouldn't give up. They won their sectional championship and the first game in the districts, but finally succumbed to that same East Tech team by a 76-72 count. This year's team was a group of guys that every fan could be proud of. Their attitude and desire to win is unmatched. The class of '75 can be proud to say that thcii basketball team was NUMBER ONE in every way. Following the footsteps of two consecutive West Senate Title winning squads, this year's Mini-Wolves finished their season with the fifth consecutive winning record for the L-W |. V. cagers with a 9-7 slate. This year's jayvees displayed a lot of promise for the varsity seasons to come. 'i 'V It's hard to match a perfect season and that's what faced this year's TRACK squad. They responded to the challenge by notching a 12-2 Duel Meet record with a 5th and a 3rd in the indoor and outdoor Senate action. Setting records along the way were Tim Truitt, fohn Sherman, and Brian Dietrich. Truitt matched Clarence Washington's century mark at 10.0. The speedster bagged 2 firsts at the Outdoor Senate meet in the 100 and the 220. Sherman ran for records in the hurdles, running the highs in 15.0 and the lows in a flashing 19.7. While he missed first in die Seante lows, he breasted the tape in highs for the Senate Crown. 90 TRACK Tony Peters blazed to die 3rd place spot in the Senate 440. Brian Dietrich nabbed a senate first in the pole vault. Me is theWolverine's best ever with a leap of 11'4 . Third year letters go to Dietrich, Peters, Bennie Marshall, and Ernie Klinek. With this kind of a season the prospects for anodier year like that of the '74 season arc bright. Len Phillips, Micky Fasko, Chuck Daugherty, Tom Edgehousc—what a happy bunch of bowlers. Strikes and spares were fewer and farther between for die 74 75 Wolverine Bowlers. The difficulty in repeating last year's Handicap Championship performance was too great to overcome because the entire league was so well balanced this year. Captain Tim Lombardy, Mickey Fasko, Chuck Daugherty, Glenn Sneed, Debbie Kekich, Tom Clay, Dan Linnean, Len Phillips and Tom Edgehouse all performed well, but only enough to grab 11th place in the 25 team loop. Lombardy who averaged 180 last year repeated that figure in 74 75, but where he managed a fifth place finish in league average in 73 74, he slipped to ninth this year. Another indication to the league overall balance. Tim’s 9th place finish lost him a chance to bowl on television in the Roll-Off a feat he accomplished last year when he almost won. Two bright spots were Tim's high game 256 and school record 652 series, L-W school records that garnered him a third place and trophy from the league in each of those areas. A veteran team returns next year, but Tim Lombardys, like this year's strikes and spares, are few and far between. BASEBALL '75 was almost a replay of Baseball '74 for the Wolverine Varsity in many respects. Again they won the West Senate Title, but not without a struggle from Holy Name. Again they won their first state tournament game, but this year dropped the second in disappointing fashion. Again they won die CITY CHAMPIONSHIP by besting East Tech 4-1, but diis year's title was different. It was sweeter and Dave Ford was more overpowering than last year. It was sweeter because the Wolverines had dropped a 4-3 13 inning contest to the Scarabs earlier in the spring and it was sweeter because 6'4 204 lbs of Dave Ford saved his best for last, a 3 hit 14 strikout performance while garnering 2 hits himself. This is one reason Dave became the 1st round pek of the Baltimore Orioles. The photos here show you the rest of the great 1975 WOLVERNIE BASEBALL. Prom is the magic time when blue jeans and tee shirts are traded for gowns and ruffled shirts, and Behold! the most beautiful young people in the world emerge to leave the adults a little speechless. They are young ladies and gentlemen and Oh how proud everyone is to be part of this magic time. A time to remember is one you will never fox get.
