AN INTERVIEW WITH DR. W. C. DANIEL JUNE 1969- 1972 by Douglas L. Home KEEP THAT OATH IN FRONT OF YOU and don ' t ever let anyone keep you from saying over and over that you ' re mighty proud of Lincoln. Make it the kind of place that you can be proud of and it takes everyone of you. Don ' t bring any disgrace to Lincoln, ' cause if you do, you bring it to yourself and you ' re stuck with it. This farewell statement to the students of Lincoln University was taken from an interview with Dr. W. C. Daniel on October 11, 1972 and it is but one avenue that all of us must take to insure Lincoln ' s Golden Future . At the time that Dr. Daniel accepted the presidency for distinguished Lincoln University , a slogan that he coined for all Lincolnites, it was for all who remember a very trying period. The rioting students, the smoldering ashes from the Student Union, and the entire business of what Dr. Daniel termed as corporate inferiority did not tempt him to alter a seemingly sound decision. Dr. W. C. Daniel is a giant of a man whose tenacity of purpose, his ability to know right from wrong, truth from fallacy, and his unfaltering leadership has brought us to a new stage in our constant increase and search for progress. In the interview with Dr. Daniel, he told me that it is very important that yearbooks, as well as institutions of higher learning, should emphasize the things we emphasize not just the mere physical aspects of a university. Al- though, it is quite evident that in the last 7 or 8 years, Lincoln has experienced a great physical development. Almost half of this campus was built and we have much to thank Dr. Daniel for. I expressed my gratitude to him for initiating the dormitory and street signs which he modestly spoke of as being a kind of visible essence of progress , and it is. If anyone would glean the campus, one could see all of the visible pro- gress that is attributed to him. Dr. Daniel understood and felt the Proud Past that his predecessors had woven be- cause he is a man who moves very progressively forward with a keen insight and a strong awareness of what higher education is about in the country and in the world.
