As we ourselves have changed in these four years, so has the world around us. At the local level we have seen many changes in our own university. These past four years have brought us a curriculum in Black Studies, and twenty-four hour open house. We participated in the boycotts protesting the Augusta Georgia slayings, and the Jackson State College murders. We were also participants in the boycotts for decent medical facilities. We witnessed an increase in our female population which was outnumbered by eight to one when we came and is presently down to two to one and that lead is still steadily decreasing. On the national level, we have seen masses of people protest against the Viet Nam War. We have seen the birth of the lottery system for the draft. We have seen the elec- tion of Black mayors to major cities and the slaying of two of our national figures. We have experienced the growth of a drug culture and the persecution of the Black Pan- thers. We have seen the growth of the Hippie and Yippie cults, and the protest of wel- fare recipients for welfare recipients' rights. We also saw the first man on the moon. On the international level, we have seen students throughout the world protesting against their countries' oppression. The Irish and Polish eruptions proved that Ameri- cans are not the only people who seek social change in their country. It would be close to impossible to list the changes that have taken place within our- selves and throughout the world during the course of the past month, much less in the last four years. In spite of these thousands of changes which have occurred the plight of the world seems to have remained the same. This lack of progress and human co- existence in spite of the many changes that we have seen is an indication of how much more mankind must change the world. We the yearbook staff of 1971 sincerely hope that our class can contribute significantly to the changes needed. 7
