Each year the spirit is lost more and more in the big rush. But, I think I have a solution. In America, Christmas falls on December 25th. However, the original St. Nicholas Day was on December 6th. If they can change it once, they can certainly move it back again. I propose that Christmas be moved back to December 6th. This would spread the activities a bit, producing more to spend on Christmas, so, after it’s over, one could devote more time to college applications. Some people may object to this because Christmas would fall too close to Thanksgiving. They would just be finishing up the leftover turkey from one holiday when they would have to eat another turkey. This idea may disagree with some people, but the answer is simple. We space out the two holidays by moving Thanksgiving to the second to last Thursday in June. This will make six months between the two turkey dinners so as not to dull the people’s love for turkey. By moving Thanksgiving to June, however, there would be another problem. Two whole days of parades on television within two weeks is too much to bear. It’s agonizing to those of us who would have to miss two days of ‘All My Chidren.” So, once again, we are forced to do some juggling of dates. We could move the 4th of July to February. The snow and ice would create a beautiful setting for a cookout and fireworks. However, to save much confusion, the name ‘Fourth of July” could not be changed; “The Fourth of February” simply does not have the same ring. So, to prevent ambiguity, the whole month of February must become July. This would make the holiday valid, and it would keep the Americans honest. This would then pose another conflict, however. All the millions of Americans who had grown up with the chant ‘Thirty days has September, April, June, and November. . .” would have to relearn it with July included instead of February, or, more likely, the other months could be changed also so they follow in the same order as always, with June starting off the new year. But then the people would be confused. With July arriving in the winter, Americans would be under the illusion that it was summer. The hospitals would be overflowing with frostbite patients who had done a little too much sunbathing on the 4th of July. Also, if January 1st came in the summer, the New Year’s Day skating activities would then have to be cancelled due to the lack of ice. So we would have to change the seasons around, having winter be where our summer is now to solve this minor problem. To change the seasons, we would have to somehow move the United States to a position south of the equator. Australia’s location would be just right. We could attach a few outboard motors onto the edge of the northern states. To do this, however, we would have to either detach ourselves from Canada, which would be impossible, or drag them along with us. For the same reason we would have to take the whole of North America with us in our move south. Having bumped Australia out of the way, we would run into a minor difficulty when Australia hit Antarctica. Gravity would increase the velocity of Australia to such a degree that Antarctica would be pushed halfway around the earth. If it were pushed in the right direction to follow a path north through the Atlantic Ocean, it would become locked between Greenland and Sweden. The North Pole would then have to be hurtled south to become the South Pole. This however, would upset man’s evolution process. Black Africans would freeze with only their skins for clothing. In the same way, The Alaskan eskimos’ homes would melt. They would be unable to support their families because all the game would have moved south. This would produce a significant rise in the worldwide unemployment rate. Judge this for yourself — is a nice relaxed Christmas with plenty of time to do family activities such as baking, making Christmas cards, and giving out presents, worth the price of a bunch of unemployed eskimos? carolyn ross Another senior class will soon depart from Lincoln-Sudbury, preceeded by a week of long awaited events. This is senior week when seniors have traditionally participated in a variety of activities highlighted by the overnight and the senior class prank. Although it has been looked upon unfavorably by school officials, the senior class prank has remained an established part of the graduation rite. Each year the seniors leave the school and community with an expression of their gratitude which serves as an inspiration to the underclassmen. Past years’ pranks range from a large “ ‘78” carved in the hill of the new softball field and a rowboat on the roof of the glass corridor, to a sign reading “Class of ’76” spray painted on the side wall of the school auditorium. Some of the more elaborate pranks include a volkswagen welded around the flag pole outside the glass corridor, tires stacked over the same flag pole another year, and the removal of street and shop signs throughout the town, which was the most costly and most condemned prank. This year’s senior class prank is sure to be one of the most impressive. The class of ’7 9 is an innovative group and we should be able to come up with some good ideas to top former pranks. Some challenging ideas have been thrown around, but we have yet to see what senior week will bring. steve low i ANAT Hit tt! Ded Race S Moving quickly through the halls of Lincoln-Sudbury, Senioritis Disease is fast becoming a real danger. Senioritis is a sickness that hollows out and destroys the minds of seniors, thus posing a direct threat to the future of our nation. Officials of the school nurses’ office confirmed yesterday that over 25 percent of the student population is susceptible to a new strain of Senioritis. The report elaborated that while the disease is now under relative control, it is likely to reach epidemic levels as more seniors are accepted to college. The symptoms of this years strain are consistent with those of previous years. One unfortunate student, after having been accepted to Harvard, Yale, Cornell and Princeton in the same day, testified before a special Senior Class Meeting and warned his classmates about the dangers of being accepted to college. He told of his compul- sion to throw freshmen through windows, skip classes and ignore assigned work. The senior, while physically forcing a student to do his “English 9” homework (a torture within itself), commented that he just “didn’t give two — anymore.” In past years, recalls one Hall Director, “all hell broke loose.” This was in regard to a sex-a-thon sponsored by the senior class. For years, Anatomy and Physiology teachers have been conducting research on how an acceptance letter from a college can create serious brain malfunction. According to a statement released by a cafeteria spokeswoman, seniors who have consumed too much chocolate cake over a four year period experience inflammation and sponginess of the brain. While this is regarded as theory, teachers do have some concrete suggestions on how the disease might be curbed. It is reasoned, by one auto shop teacher, that after seniors have applied to college their eyes could be surgically removed. This would reduce the likelihood of students reading their acceptance letters and thus catching the disease. One member of the school committee supported the new concept and ordered that the Science Department proceed ‘full steam ahead’’ and immediately start putting their suction cups to work in removing seniors’ eyes. It was also suggested that once the school had possession of the eyes they could be sold back to the students after graduation, as a means of increasing revenue for the school. This is not the only way that the faculty here at Lincoln-Sudbury plans to combat the sickness. Superintendent David Levington announced today that he would be meeting with Former President Ford, as well as other Republican leaders, to discuss the possibility of converting left-over Swine Flu Shots into Senioritis vaccination. If Levington’s plan is workable, freshmen enrolled in Earth Science Courses, would be put to work (for Service Component credit) preparing the new drug. One of the unfortunate side-effects of the new medication, however, is sterility, similar to that now being experienced by males who walk through the library’s radioactive security system. This aspect of the drug was hailed by a group of Sudbury residents who petitioned the School Committee to ‘nip our budget problems in the bud.” It is their reasoning that through sterility, future enrollments at the high school are likely to decrease, saving the town millions in decreased budget expenditures. Senioritis, as you can see, is a very serious disease and is one that shouldn’t be taken lightly. If left unchecked it will corrode the brains of next year’s seniors and the seniors after them. jon david For the past four years, I have always been anxious for the yearbook. Now that I have finally become a senior, | can see my picture featured in this annual publication. I have also known that I would participate on the Dyad staff. Well that is just the beginning. I have always enjoyed watching people and accounting for everyone's business; which basically makes me a busybody. Fortunately, Dyad had the perfect job for me, and I proceeded to become the official “Identifier”. That job proved to be relaxing and challenging. I think I have looked through at least ten-thousand pictures three times. But, I shouldn’t complain because frankly, I liked doing that. Anyway, I was soon given bigger and better assignments which included getting candids of all the students no one else could find. I received a five minute camera lesson, and then the staff patted me on the back and told me to “go get them”. Since I was very naive and inexperienced with the camera, | found the mission rather trying. Personally, I have never understood camera shy people. I wonder what was going through their minds as I chased them down the corridor. People have been upset, to say the least. For instance, one boy had a few very, let’s say, vivid words for me and my camera. Another girl was literally dragged and held by five ‘friends’; while other people gave me various hand signals. These are only some of the typical reactions that I have experienced. While these people are whining and complaining about a painless, 45 second process, they think it’s easy for me to take their picture. Well, it isn’t. To begin with, I can be very clumsy with the equipment, and everything is supposed to be still and perfect. Then I end up hiding around corners or behind staircases so I can get an actual candid. Finally, if I am not hiding, I am running after a person which makes holding the camera still almost impossible. But through it all, I have successfully captured many of those stubborn camera shy people revealing their natural character. Well, I still don’t understand this film repelling attitude; maybe all of these people are invisible on film (I don’t know, it’s only an idea). Anyway, I am a candidate for the ‘Honorary Trish Beaubien Award”, and good luck to all of my opponents. sue goldstein 2 NY 11 As we reflect on the 1978 soccer season, we are met with the continued frustration of our last tournament game. However, in terms of our team play, the loss was actually a climax. Struggling to find the best system to fit our team, we experienced an up-and-down season. The hot summer double-sessions went as well as one could expect and the season itself started with a big win over Wayland. It was the first time we had beaten Wayland in our first meeting with them in three years. We continued to roll along until we traveled to Acton to play on their plush turf. Abruptly, Acton-Boxborough knocked us out of the undefeated ranks. The score is too embarassing to repeat as they scored more goals than our entire total allowed last year. At that point, we were hanging on to first place by half a game with a 4-1 record. Despite our obvious disappointment, we looked forward to our next meeting with Wayland, knowing that it would most likely decide the Dual County League title. The big game at Wayland was played on a Sunday because of the previous day’s weather. The game was a gem, but Wayland prevailed by a 2-1 margin. The renowned rivalry between the schools and the increased popularity of soccer brought 600 to the sidelines. With this game to their advantage, Wayland eventually slipped into first place. Going into the final day of the season, everyone thought that the DCL crown would go to a team other than our beloved Warriors for the fist time in the league’s ten-year history. We played our last game with the usual will to win, but the realization came that we might be the team to end the Lincoln-Sudbury Soccer Dynasty of Champi- ons. When we received the news in the locker room that our friends in Weston had dismantled Wayland 4-1, we were shocked. It didn’t dawn on us that we were champions until that evening when we hosted Weston at a party to show our gratitude for their unbelievable accomplishment of toppling Wayland. After sneaking by Brookline in the first round of the Eastern Massachusetts Tournament, we found ourselves faced with the fourth seeded team — Wakefield. Twice in the last three years, we met this same team in the second round of the tournament. Twice we lost to them as their rather massive ranks ran through our little team from the small towns of Lincoln and Sudbury. There is no high school football team in Wakefield, so all the big boys play soccer. Dreaming of stampeding elephants, we had trouble building spirit and confidence as a team, but deep within, we were ready when the big day came. It was overcast and cold when we made the long journey to Wakefield. Arriving early, we shivered in the tense moments preceding the battle. No one was there. The ropes guarding the field against anticipated crowds stood idle. It was silent. | By game time, the area around the field was packed. The starting whistle snapped some of our paralyzing tension, but we had trouble shaking all of it from highly tensed muscles. Nevertheless, we were incredibly pleased to have given a traditionally big Wakefield team an even game in the first quarter. This inspired us to pick up our game. In the next three quarters, we played the best soccer as a team than ever before. Constant pressure on the Wakefield goal built pride, confidence and a will to win as the game wore on. However, at the end of regulation time, we were tied, but we had not scored. Confidence and pride became doubt, and the will to win became a worry about never scoring. We panicked as a team during the overtime periods. We had a slight edge in the first two, but the third was even, in a way. With goalies disallowed the use of their hands, it was a completely different game. The field became a pinball machine as the ball roamed carelessly off tired players. Suddenly, it found its way to the foot of a big center forward at midfield. We watched helplessly as he ran over us like Wakefield players of the past. The result was also like the past. It was the third time we had to give our tournament dreams to Wakefield in the second round. However, it was the best game of our career as a team, and that’s what counts. Wakefield went on to take second in the state tournament, but we’re better. christopher lockery and stephen kutenplon ae te LA A im, oe ae 7 $ fz Se Fie gs a POPS CE eereer epee © q Hie lane ¥ « GE ee ee technolog Feige “pene scing sete” Digi POE io i je dea Bs Ne a | aie ttietienk rh ‘ : a ; pe mt at bated ’ eM te Res oe OU OE, © irks pnt, outdoor pursuits ie ’ Vali TS a ee ene ee freshmen Abott, Kristen Aiello, John Alden, Dawn Algeo, Timothy Allan, Scott Allen, Gary Allen, Glenn Angie, Richard Arnum, Anita Arsenault, Norman Azerrad, Suzanne Barker, Diane ea Basile, Stephen Bassett, Diane Battista, Richard Beaubien, Mark Beausoleil, Laurie Beck, Linda Bekampis, Carol Bell, Douglas Bell, Richard Belli, Amanda Bergantino, Michael Biehler, Shawn Bigwood, Karen Bishop, Leslie Bisson, Deborah Blatt, Emily Bleakney, Amy Bolton, Todd Bonaceto, Lisa Booth, Ann Boseman, Learline Bostder, Laurel Boyer, Susan Boyle, Margaret Branche, Matthew Branum, Judy Braude, Nina Brown, Doreen Bruh, Debra Bucal, Gerard Bucal, Lillibeth Burke, Cheryle Burtoft, Teresa Byington, Ann Campbell, Carolyn Campbell, John Cannalonga, Elaine Casto, Dale Cathcart, Sumner Cetrone, Robert Chambers, John Cheney, Lisa Cherniack, Alexander Chiburis, Andrew Clark, Andrew Claussen, John Cleary, Jennifer Clery, Douglas Cleveland, Karen Clow, Kenneth III Cobuzzi, Robert Jr. Coleman, Angela Connolly, William Connors, Margaret Cook, Christine Cook, Kieva Cooper, Jana Cooper, Reed Corcoran, Cynthia Cotton, Maureen Coventry, Dianne Crawford, Jennifer Crittenden, Connie Cronin, Kelley Crosby, Mark Cumberland, Vincent Daitch, Jennifer Dale, Bryan Daley, Michael Daly, Joan Dangel, Evan David, Marc Davis, Kristi Davis, Naomi Day, Penny Daye, Ural Jr. Dennis, Detra Dermarderosian, Jessica Dewey, Janet Dickey, Heather Diedrich, Curtis Diehl, Alane Diehl, Amy Docherty, Mary Domico, Lisa Domico, Pamela Donaldson, Sarah Dorian, Rebecca Douty, Kurt Dow, Eric Doyle, Lisa Duggan, Elizabeth Dunham, Jerin Dunnell, David Ehn, Melissa Eisenhauer, Nancy Elwell, John Epstein, Robin Evans, Craig Everett, Robert Fardy, Lauren Farina, Ann Farmer, Wesley Faye, Aaron Feinberg, Michael Felegian, Mara Fennell, Kathleen Ferguson, Daniel Fink, Peter Fischer, Dianna Follett, Patricia Foote, Sarah Ford, Kenneth Fortini, Beth Fosgate, Sandra Foster, Yvette Frank, Eytan Fredella, Christine Freedman, Lori Freedman, Pamela Freundlich, Mare Friel, Charles Fryer, Kristine Fulton, Tod Fumicello, Lynne Furciniti, Douglas Gates, Michelle George, Kathryn Gerry, John Jr. Getz, Ronald Ginsburg, Andrew Ginsburg, Matthew Ginsburg, Susan Glist, Elliot Goff, Heather Gogolin, Brian || Gordon, Adam || Gorgone, Philip Jr. | Goss, Drew | Grattam, Robert | Greene, Elizabeth | Greene, Marjorie | Greer, Jeffrey Grossman, Claudia Grysiewicz, Catherine Guentert, Barbara Gulick, Roberta Haessler, Karen Hahn, Georgette Hall, Peter Hall, Sara Hall, Todd Hamilton, Kristin Hamlin, Arthur Hanschka, Whitney _ Haras, Linda Jean Harding, Joseph Harrington, Nancy Harvey, Eric Harvey, Scott Hayes, Stacey Healy, John Heppenstall, Deborah Hertweck, Valerie Hetrick, J.
