Lincoln Park High School 1959 Football Season An early lead spelled victory for the Parkers in their first game against Fordson. A hard hitting and alert offense found paydirt several times in the first half, while a steady defence closed the door on Ford- son in the fourth quarter. After a high scoring win over Highland Park the team met one of their toughest foes of the season, Dearborn. The Dearborn griders fought hard and before the end of the game, Lincoln Plfk knew !hCY. had met a real opponent. This was a preview of things to come. The beefy boys from Wayne WUC determined. but just couldn't touch the speed of Lincoln Park. The next week saw the home town eleven retain the Little Brown jug against Melvindale. A hard fight, but one sided victory over Ypsilanti WHS HC!! in line. At this point, over confidence entered the picture, and it took the whole first half of the Allen Park game before the team came to life and slid by the boys in green. One more victory would mean a championship. Edsel Ford was next in line, and Lincoln Park was not to be denied. It was an action packed game that could have gone either way. In the last minute of play the determination, desire and drive of the L.P. players payed off with the deciding touchdown. The Huron Rouge Championship had been claimed, but the season was not over yet. Wyandotte put an abrupt ending to Lincoln Pa.rk's dreams of an undefeated season by downing them in the rain and mud at Wyandotte. Through great determination and almost flawless coaching, the Parkers emerged with an eight win, one loss record and a championship which teams in the future will be trying to duplicate for quite a while. 21
