56 57 Football Review Dan Elsey Guard Despite a 2 7 won and lost record the Railsplitters flelded a football team for Wh1Ch any loyal student and fan should be proud Although the 1956 football season did not look too good in the won and lost column inexperienced sophomores and Juniors played better ball than an record indicates In the opener the Rallsplitters played host to a strong Fordson eleven holdmg them to a scoreless tie unt1l the last five mlnutes of the game when Fordson capitalized on two breaks costing the home squad a 12 0 loss In the next game at Wayne High Lmcohm Park Jumped off to a 6 0 halftime lead but the conference champs featuring two all conference backs scored three times 1n the last half to win 20 7 The Orange and Blue next mvaded Dearborn where they won their flrst game of the season 19 13 This was a good offensive game with both teams running the ball successfully and the lead changed hands several times With two minutes to go and the1r third defeat staring them in the face Torn Krause ran eighty yards for the L P victory touchdown Returning home the Railsplitters were led out by a strong River Rouge team 7 6 in a fine defensive battle Excellent puntlng by Rouge kept the Parkers bottled up most of the night Lincoln Park's touchdown came on a fifty yard pass to Krause 1n the last minutes of play squad Yps1's line and its hard running backs were too much for us as well as the rest of the league Traveling to Melvmdale for the traditional battle for the Little Brown Jug the Railsplltters again held a halftlme lead of 6 0 A fumble and a lapse in the third and fourth quarters resulted 1n two touchdowns for Melvmdale giving them a 13 6 wm This one went 1nto the books as another heartbreaker with the Parkers on the short end of a 20 13 score Next the Railsplltters journeyed to Edsel Ford Where they met one of the three strongest teams in the conference Again they went down to a 21 6 defeat In the last game of the season the L P eleven rose up against a strong confident Allen Park team to undermine an underdog rating for a 12 7 victory The outstanding play of the game was L P 's Don O'Bozo's mid air grab of a fumble to romp for a fifty yard touchdown In spite of the seven losses the Parkers placed Tom Krause Ron MCKl.tr1Ck and Al Vadasy on the All Area squad The most valuable player on the team as voted by his team mates was Tom Krause It's not Just one guy that makes a team 1t's all of them working together and the teamwork and fine spirit d1splayed by this squad 1S something Bob Johansen to remember proudly in the future It's not Tackle whether you win but how you played the game C 1 ' . v i , . . . . y The next game saw the Railsplitters go down for a 33-0 loss before a mighty Ypsilanti
