LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL CLEVELAND, OHIO VOLUME 125 s LHS Says Farewell to Dedicated Faculty Member CLASSROOM CHALLENGE is presented by r. Louis Persky. Actively participating in school functions, always expressing a deep interest in students and fellow faculty members, Mr. Louis Persky can best be described as a devoted and conscientious member of Lincoln High School. Throughout his many years here, Mr. Persky has established a legacy of service and dedication, and has demonstrated his capacity for warmth, understanding, and friendship. The knowledge he has imparted and the work he has done on behalf of the senior class will never be forgotten. Lincoln will always be a better school because of him and we will be better individuals thanks to him. And so it is to you, Mr. Louis Persky, that the graduating classes of 1967 fondly wish to dedicate Explorer '67. A FAVORITE RETREAT after a hard day for Mr. Persky is tlie library. 2 Joseph Mancini Assumes Role as LHS Principal EXPRESSING HIS APPRECIATION for Lincoln's part in the U.S. Army Recruiting Mission is Sergeant Borisa. We are living in a world in which explosive has become a cliche to describe many events. Educators have applied the term to describe our advance of knowledge. It is my sincere hope now, as graduates of Lincoln High School, that you will be able to relate your general knowledge to this world of action; that you will continue to ask questions and strive for new ideas; and that you may always have the freedom to change your mind when new and convincing evidence presents itself. It is imperative that you do not stand still and that you use wisely your educational investment. Benjamin Franklin once said, If a man empties his purse into his head, no man can take it away from him. An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest. PROUDLY PRESIDING over his first graduation exercise is Principal Joseph Mancini. 3 SENIOR DIRECTORY 5 FACULTY GARY BRANSON ALVERNA DALY MELVYN GROSS WALTER PRINZ CYRIL ZUPAN Co-ordinator Ext. CHRISTMAS IS A TIME of Santa Claus, children, and love for Kathy Coon and friend. Christmas Comes to Lincoln The magic of the holidays came to Lincoln for Christmas 1966. Holiday festivities began early in the morning with the choir's traditional sing along around the well. Later, they marched into the candle-lit auditorium to proclaim the magic of Christmas in song. That same day Mrs. Kemock's cooking classes entertained a group of three year-olds from the neighborhood. Wide-eyed and amazed they watched as Santa Claus Dave Handa gave them each a big Christmas stocking. Christmas baskets were also distributed--all of which helped to make Christmas 1966 at Lincoln a truly memorable one for all. CHRISTMAS CHEER IS GIVEN A GENEROUS BOOST by Lincoln, ites Wilda Varney, Laura Slenczka, Colleen Conway, and Judy Harasyn. 56 TO NANCY ORTIZ, a present is only one way of saying Merry Christmas. In Memoriam A man--a most unusual man--died on November 14, 1966. A great teacher, administrator, confidante, and fricnd--Guy F. Varner was all of these and more. Only a few months ago he headed down the ramp of retirement—a station in life which he found difficult to accept. Nevertheless, he often returned to Lincoln, his home for 25 years, because he believed in youth. He always said that our youth was the best group one could find anywhere. No other individual gave of himself and his time more devotedly than lie. No other man espoused the traditions of our school more than he. His sincere commitment to uphold and cherish these traditions made him truly a great man. His devotion and loyalty to our school will long be remembered. lie loved to talk about our school. He lived for our school and died for it. Both his friends and our school will sorely miss him. LINCOLN LOG November 18, 1966 99 THE WOLVES— Explorer Coeditor Lynne Wolf and Editor Kathy Wolf chat about a page layout. Yearbooking Brings Headaches and Happiness It's a foggy March evening and time to put Explorer '67 to bed. As our annual nears completion, an avalanche of memories descends upon me and a host of wonderful people must be thanked for making it all possible. The week spent at the Ohio U. Journalism Workshop, the summer planning sessions, and those grueling photography lessons from Tim Boylan proved very enlightening. Each staffer left an indelible mark on the book. Explorer '67 found its character through the talented artwork of junior Andy Kalns. Joan Yaussy and Edie Walker worked at the business end of publishing the book, and frequently helped with picture and copy assignments. Copy Editor Linda Hienton and her assistants—Vera Tcrcc, Olga Komaschka, and Pat Herrman--spent many a night at our house buried knee-deep in carbon paper, pictures, and pop bottles. The night that six of us worked for half an hour on one headline will always be a cherished part of our work. Class editors Laura Slcnczka, Kathy Kamin, Gail Cunningham, Nora Pampe, and Sandy Zajachuk endeavored to bring the class spirit to the pages of Explorer. Judy Harasyn was also a great sport when it came to selling many of our old pictures. And a big thanks must be given to co-editor Lynne Wolf, who proved to be a dedicated worker of the highest degree. I would also like to extend my gratitude to our advisor, Mrs. Helene Maloy, for her invaluable aid and guidance, and to Mr. Ed Bonk and all the wonderful people at Stan's Studio. As for me, I learned much about Lincoln—its people and its functions--for which I shall forever be grateful. Kathy Wolf, Editor HAPPINESS IS a finished yearbook. _ -
