Bryan So live that if anyone should speak ill of you falsely, those who know you best will not believe it, and thus you will build both a fine character and reputation. MR. BRYAN'S MESSAGE TO CLASS DEDICATION We, the members of the June Class of 1954, wish to dedicate our yearbook to our principal, Earl J. Bryan. We feel indeed fortunate to have spent four years under the guidance of so outstanding an educator. Mr. Bryan possesses a deep faith in youth. In the students with whom he comes in contact, he tries to instill high ideals of scholarship, to develop leadership qualities, and to inspire a desire to serve. His tact and understanding make every student feel that he is a staunch friend. As Emerson said, A true friend may be reckoned the masterpiece of nature. He was quite happy to meet a few of his fellow Lincoln graduates of June, 1954, during his tour of the country. Betty Jane Hansen and Flora May Kadcrhck were vacationing with their families; Janice Jean Horvath had just opened a dress shop on the Nile River; Ardean A. Boone and Alexandra Borovik were collecting old African songs for the “Stop the Music” program; and John J. Opalka Jr., with his new partner. Maurice J. Chagnon, was hunting lions on the Umfundie Plains. Unfortunately, on his way to South Africa, Don got “air sick” on the plane driven by pilot Gilbert Bachna. Don was surprised to find TWA's stewardess was an old classmate, Patricia Ann Cochran. She did all she could to comfort him until he landed safely. Upon arrival Don was happy to meet a fellow graduate by the name of Katherine M. Danylyk. Miss Dany- l.vk was sent to South Africa by the Cleveland Revival Center to continue with her tine missionary work. She immediately took Don for a rest at the mission house, and then sent for a doctor and nurse. Don recovered rapidly after being given fine care and attention by Doctor Myra Irene Beryk and her lovely assistant nurse, Betty Joyce Cherry. While hunting spotted lizards, Don ran into “Bring ’Em Back Alive” Robert Arnold Buck, former graduate of Lincoln, who was in Africa gathering material for his new book called “Robust Rhinos.” Don returned to the United States on the U.S.S. Lincoln, under the supervision of Captain Walter Paliwoda. The trip home was full of high life because of the ship’s entertainment. If your motor growls like a dog We'll make it purr like a cat.” ‘s TESKE'5 PASTIES Page 21 DRAGNET The story you are about to read is highly imaginary. All times and places are fictional. Only the names are real. My name is Z. Someday. I'm a senior. I was faced with an electrifying problem. A’l I wanted was facts but everything else got in my way. An accident had occurred at the corner of 1954 January Street. My job—find it. AF-TOORA while of deliberation on the matter, I decided to take my NASH and start dragging the net. The first day of the search brought nothing. I was so MADZAY that I returned to my office and mixed myself and my secretary a COLLINS. As I was sitting there in disgust a clue came to me. All I had to do now was to find the man who sold the tires that made the car go and I could find the accident. I began calling tire dealers all over town. About 10 calls later a dealer answered the phone and said: HOLOWZAK. I was suspicious. First of all, how did he know my name was Zak and why did he say Hello in such an odd way? I asked him, Did UCCELLO any tires lately? He said, Yes. Three GOODYEAR tires had been bought by a woman driver. Oh! Oh! That spelled trouble. I questioned further, Did SHEA seem like a bad driver? NOVAK. Now I knew something was fishy. Why should he call me Zak one time and Vak another. I asked him in a polite and unsuspecting way. He said, I thought you'd never ask. Did you think for one minute that we would spell the name wrong? That's the only thing about this story that is real. My conscience was relieved and he gave me her address— 1954 January Street! Everything had been going along FEIN until I heard those numbers. They kept ringing in my ears. Where had I heard them before? I tried associating them with familiar objects in my office and on my desk. The calendar was the last object and after that I gave up. Who knows, perhaps it would take a year before it dawned on me and by that time it would probably be too late. Maybe if I found out where she had bought the car I would be able to find her. Something told me I had a job on my hands, but I went to WORK. By the end of 107 phone calls I found the place. The only information the manager could give me was that she had purchased one BRAND new DARUS convertible and her phone number was UFindit 4-ME-2. Now I was getting somewhere but I had to remember to be cautious. I lifted the receiver for what I swore would be the last time and dialed her number. Strange, but no one answered. Wait. Someone was coming to the phone. Ah! There came the voice. Did you want something? 'Yes, please. What did DUPAY for that new car you bought recently? Oh, it's MOREK than it is car right now. I had an accident. I said, You did? I couldn't let on, you see. But how much did DZUBAY for it in the beginning? I asked. Oh, I didn't buy it. A fellow DAVIS it to me as a present, was her answer. Holy SMOLIK. This was beginning to look like a case for the police. I asked her, How did it happen? She told me the whole story. Well, I was ROMAN around town with hardly a PALIVODA in the world, when this handsome fellow, with a mustache identical to that of Clark Gable, waved me down. He asked if he could get a lift to the dentist's office in the KOZORA Building. He had a TOTH that needed attention. I had nothing else to do so I gave him a ride. On the way, we introduced ourselves. He said his name was Robert Page 25 DRAGNET MALCOLM but I could call him BOBKIVICH for short. After the appointment at the dentist, we decided to get better acquainted and so we ate at the noted Hungarian restaurant, The NEMETH. After that we visited art galleries operated by ARTAMKIN and ARTBAUER. We still hadn't gotten acquainted so we went to three night clubs, the Famous VARLAMOS, the Gay CARRIZZO, and the Fluzi GUZI. Then we drove out to where he worked and as we approached, there on a large sign in tourquois and white I read the names of KLEBOWSKI SHAROSKY BROZ, Inc. Are you still there? I answered yes and she continued. Well, it was a beautiful building with red roses, grass, and HODGES planted all around the front. He told me all about the business and the three S's—secretaries whose names began with S —SOBOL, SPRENCZ, and STAN-ISZEWSKI. Then we left. It had gotten quite foggy by this time and I told him I had better SHUBECK home. As much as I wanted to get home quick and KRAMER to the floor, I found driving fast absolutely impossible. A few NARIZNY escapes made me slow down. As I drove past the SCHMUTZOK residence I could see a light in the study. Evidently she was doing some reading or maybe writing a letter. We had just gotten on FLANAGAN Boulevard and about to cross the East CRISAN bridge when he began talking again. I had so much on my mind and trying to distinguish what he was talking about was like trying to find a SMITH in the phone book. I began to think the same of her. She must have taken up public speaking in school because she sure could talk. I wondered what all this had to do with the accident but she continued. Then he began telling me of a party he had last week with a Mr. MALLCHOK and Mr. TESKE, both prominent in sports. He told me how they talked about the opera singers LISACHENKO and STEIERT. Then he told me how Robert SUNKLE caught a 250 pound tuna off the coast of Florida, which didn't interest me in the slightest. On he rambled about a Miss LITIAHO, whom he had sponsored in sending to Paris to take up dress designing. By that time I had asked where he lived and dropped him off. In another 15 minutes I was home. I didn't bother to put the car in the garage but hurried off to bed. Well, the next morning is when it all happened. I was late for work and so I jumped in the car and took off. But you know something? Before I had gotten out of the driveway I hit a fire plug and telephone pole. By the way, why am I telling you all this? Are you from the insurance company? Well no, but I would like to see the car, I carefully replied. Fine. Come on over. I'm home most any evening. Do you have the address? Yes, but I don't— Well, I sure enjoyed talking with you or was it to you? Anyway I enjoyed it. Goodby. How do you like that! All that time wasted and I still didn't find out how to get there. I was too tired to worry anymore and so I drove my competent and understanding secretary, Miss SHELLENBARGER, home. As I was driving to my place, I found my hand constantly over my mouth as one YAHNERT came after another. But soon I was under the covers and in bed. Well, I hadn't solved the mystery and the whole thing seemed like a crazy mixed-up muddle but one quotation which a principled man cf Cleveland once quoted stuck to my mind— High failure towers over low success!
