They see many happy memories which Will never be forgotten. Led by Pat Fitzgerald, mtg Folke Nyberg, Vice-Presidentg Karen Ram- Secretaryg Sharron Welsch, Treasurer: Kay Susie Rindler, and Delores Kirkpatrick, Student Council Representatives, Edna Harrison, Senior, Class TOTEM Reporterg Barbara Wilson, Senior Student Council TOTEM Reporterg and Miss Williams, Faculty Advisor, the Senior Class has experienced the most en- joyable of all Senior years. At the beginning of the school year West Seattle was invited to a dance held after school. All decor- ations, programs, and finances were handled by the efficient Seniors. An important item in any Senior's last year is the week when he is King and reigns supreme, such was Senior Week. Each Senior was made to feel the most important person in all the school. Bach day followed in line with the central theme, Senior Circus. Tags were distributed, teachers honored, a Senior luncheon, Seniority Day, Pig Tail and Bow Tie Day, and Senior Dress-Up Day with the Senior assembly, Banquet, and Senior Play. At Christ- mas time and Valentine's Day the Seniors expressed their appreciation to the teachers with special hand- made cards. In the early Spring the choosing of caps and gowns, and announcements was the important item in the life of the Lincoln Senior. Por the first time a Spring Dress-Up Day was held. For the end of a perfect year, the Senior Prom, Commencement and Cruise concluded the activities of the Senior Class of 1953 Susie Rindler Student Council Rep X Z-'M-Cx i j ff vm- 'l W f vr fm:rz1. 2-, ffzesawrgdaseet gg... . f f . fi , 6, . Election of the class officers got off to a slow start because of the problem of combining the distinct groups from Hamilton and Jane Addams, Junior High Schools. But it wasn't long before a class unit was formed. The officers chosen were: Doris Barnett, Pres- identg Jim Thompson, Vice Presidentg Betty Morten- son, Secretaryg Shari Schalo, Student Council Rep- resentativeg and Dawn Lawrence, Totem Reporter. With enthusiastic spirits, the class sponsored a Carnival and Dance December 10, and the traditional Sophomore Talent Show. Besides their own activities the class also joined in other school organizations like signing up for Boys' and Girls' Club committees. The able supervision of Mrs. Eleanor Snodgrass helped to make the class activities a huge success. .Q ff' 591 at 'U wi' Abrams, Jeanine 1 .:,,, A , V ,W L M ,X Ahl, Charmaine 3 flip l .g,,,, ' A Aker, Nancy , 1 f' , a Alben, Stan A rf 2 - J Albrecht, virginia ' W d V , H ' ' Alexander, Nancy J A A , Allbee, Claire - X ' A M Allen, Darlene 'QD 'xv' 1 4 4 gf ., 0' 'sv-X i W Vf l 1 , ,N 5 f -7. fi, ag'- Q 'hs-Ja , Xrri f J a J la' it A ubyrqzv V j W e 1 wel sh V Q z sr QA Yi 1.5 f s :,. gg: N, ' 2 ,K . Junior Rep. Larry Lehman Sophomore Rep - DRIVES AND SALES The Boys' Club sponsors many Drives and Sales during the year. These are handled exclusively by the Drives and Sales committee and their chairman. LeRoy Cheek. At the beginning of each new sports season rooter hats and decals are offered to all students. This sale is encouraged through drives, pep as- semblies, the Totem and the Bulle- tin. School book covers are sold at the beginning of each new semester and school bus tokens are sold every other day. Besides its assigned du- ties this conimittee helps the boys to make new friends and helps co-ord- inate the Boys' Club activities. ASSEMBLY The Assembly Committee is chos- en by the Boys' Club Board of Con- trol. It is the duty of this committee to outline the programs for all the letterman and Boys' Club assemb- lies. At the end of each athletic S63- son an assembly is held to award to the season's athletes, letters which they have won in a given sport. Dar- ryl Bradshaw and Henry Hall, Co- Chairmen, also plan the Boys, Club assemblies. These assemblies are generally of an educational and beneficial nature. This past year smoking and reckless driving were the problems facing the speakers at the Boys' Club assemblies. WELCOMING The Boys' Club Welcoming Com- mittee under the leadership of Gary Sedlak is in employment the year around. The members welcome new boys to Lincoln who enroll after the start of the school year. The new- comers are aided by the committee as much as possible by escorting them to their unknown rooms, intro- ducing them to new friends, and at- tempting to answer their questions regarding the school and school life. The committee also sends greetings to students who are ill. It is possible to contemplate that through the Welcoming Committee the school's future leaders may be sought out more rapidly. SERVICE One of the most important com- mittees of the Boys' Club is the Service Connnittee headed by George Eastman. The members of this Committee were found hard at work at football, basketball and baseball games: as well as at track meets, P. T. A. meetings. and many other functions sanctioned by the school. Composed of boys from all three classes, the Service Committee has provided a way for these boys to serve their school in little known but necessary ways. Little thanks or recognition has been given to these fine boys for their service dur- ing the year. Front: Mary Fowler, Cor. This comedy, with its humorous scenes of the family life of the Crochets, depicted clearly the fears, joys, and sorrows of a French mother trying desperately to keep her family together. The life of the family cen- tered around an ornamental doorstep which once be- longed to a Wealthy plantation. From the day the Crochets fished the doorstep from the river, it had become a symbol of the things they wished to have. To each member of this desolate family the doorf step had a special meaning. To the father it was a symbol of good luck. To Mrs. Crochet it was her dream of keeping her family together. To the eldest daughter, Topal, it was a constant reminder of the things they didn't have. To Evie, the fifteen year old, who diligently scrubbed them, they brought the feeling of being a fine lady. To the twins it was the grandest thing they had seen, but to Arthur, the one who fished the doorstep from the river, it had no meaning. This play was excellently cast with each actor dof ing his part to do a convincing, sincere performance. Mr. Pollette's fine direction and long hours of hard Work paid well in audience appreciation. Three back- field and five line candidates from the fourth place team of 1951 were back. The team started practice a Week before school started in preparation for their first game. On September 19 the Lynx were pitted against the Franklin Quakers in the annual East vs. West Jamboree. The Quakers were the preseason favorites to win the league championship. After the Jamboree the Abes had five days in which to prepare for their first game with Cleveland. On the 25th of September the Lincoln team Went into the Cleveland game with high spirits. In the second quarter Rod Hilderman Went straight up the middle for a T D and gave Lincoln a 6 to 0 lead. Rod added another T D in the third quarter giving the Lynx a 12 to 0 advantage. Another T D was scored when Bob Herring broke loose for a 62 yard run. There was outstanding line play by Pete Hansell, Henry Hall, and Darryl Bradshaw. Final Score: Lincoln 18--Cleveland 0 The second game of the season for the Lynx was with the West Seattle Indians. From the opening kickoff to the final gun it was the Lynx all the way. Bob Herring personally accounted for the Lynx 100 yards by rushing and the rest by passes. The Lynx took the opening kickoff and started on a drive to a T D, paced by, Rod Hilderman, Doug Houk and Bob Herring. The second score came in the second quarter after a see-saw battle. Herring took the handoff over guard and went 60 yards for the score. The second half brought about a different picture with Garfield being more powerful. Smith scored on a sustained march and Schaab's kick was good. Later Wayne Brooks took the ball over for the equal izer. Late in the first half Doug Houk suffered a nerve injury which sidelined him for the season. Don Lund- berg was outstanding at an end position, defensively, for the Lynx. Final Score: Lincoln 13, Garfield 13 The Lincoln eleven met their first defeat of the season when they played the Roosevelt Roughriders. The first score came on a 23 yard run by Roosevelt halfback, Arnie Young. Later in the game, Young tallied the second touchdown on a 70 yard rim. On the last play of the game a pass thrown by Bill Squibb was intercepted. Final Score: Lincoln 0, Roosevelt 12 After a discouraging defeat at the hands of Roose- velt, in which Bob Herring was injured, the Lynx found their next foe to be Queen Anne. The Grizzlies considered Weak in preseason forecasts, proved to be a tough and rejuvenated squad. The first half prov- ed the teams even. A Q. A. drive was stopped when Frank Wakeland intercepted a pass and ran it out to the 11. Late in the second half a 24 yard pass put the ball on the Lynx 29 yard line. Then Ron Pike broke loose and scooted to the Lincoln 9 before being tackel- ed by Ray Christiansen, who in the process jarred the ball loose. The pigskin rolled across the Lincoln goal line where Quinn Redeker fell on it for the game's only TD. Final Score: Lincoln 0, Queen Anne 6. After defeats at the hands of Roosevelt and Queen Anne, Lincoln entered the Franklin game hoping to beat the high flying Quakers. The first half of the game showed promise of a real battle as the Lincoln defensive team played inspired ball and consistently held the Quakers for downs. The second half was an entirely different story. The Quakers ran roughshod over a Lincoln team that just ran out of gas. Final Score: Lincoln 0, Franklin 33 The final game of the season brought Lincoln's first homecoming forth and the Ballard Beavers as the foe. With high spirit the Lynx received the opening kickoff only to have a fumble recovered by the Beavers. Minutes later Ballard had put themselves 6 points ahead of the Lynx. But the Lynx were not to be denied. On a sustained drive the Abes went over from 1 yard out. The score at halftime was 6 to 6 deadlock.
