THE SPIRIT OF LINCOLN LEAVES THE PAST AND LOOKS TO THE FUTURE SENIOR OFFICER PAGE CLASS HISTORY Entering in the fall of 19U7, the class of 1951 was exposed to the traditions and moods of Lincoln. For leadership, the class looked to officers and adviser, Mrs. Hazel McCaskill. Clark Bean, Collen Cruik- shank, Gloria Finkenstein, and Bud Stavney fulfilled the presidency. This year's seniors proudly led the way in rallying to Lincoln. There were many forces which strove to divide, but every senior exhibit- ed patriotismforclassandschool. Of good times together there are many memories: After a fine dress-up banquet December 8, the senior Play, 'Outward 8ound', was presented. To honor mid-year graduates, dress-up day was also observed. The play enjoyed a second performance in February. At mid-year, the graduating class put their shoulders to the wheel to secure annual funds, and promoted five drives simultaneously: a shoe- shine campaign, clothes-hanger collection, cookie sale, barn dance, and sale of faculty photos. Senior week, which was observed May 18 through Zu, was crowded with things to see and do, climaxed with the Senior Review. The Prom and Commencement brought the final heights d a high school career. 'we only regret that we must nowleave Lincoln. we shall always re- menber the convictions we began to develop here, and with which we must now impress companions in college, business, home, and state. 'As we are indebted to Lincoln, so are we determined to carry his spirit into the future. whatever we may do, where-ever we may be, we shall do and be as we learned at Lincoln....And such a way will always be a credit before God and our country.' Totem Representative This was the first year at Lincoln for sophomores who en- tered from junior high and the second year for others. All soon adopted the casual air of old-timers, and showed their importance as a part of Lincoln. Under the guidance of Miss williams, the class pitched right in and helped in the clean-up drive and in the tradi- tional talent show for freshmen. lLast year the class got off to a good start with a show for their older class-mates, the sophomores.l To lead the sophomore class the following were elected: Jim Otto, presidentg Pat Fitzgerald, vice-president, Barbara Giersch, secretary, Barbara wilson, Totem reporter, Bill At- well, Student Council: and Bill Koons, Boys' Cluo relresen- tative. The leaders which the sophomores contributed to Lincoln activities and athletics have certainly demonstrated its standing. Next year, as upper classmen, those of the class of '53 will know how to achieve great things. Darlene Adan, Richard Aigner, Van Aikman, Wanda Alldredge. P, Johnson Reed Bement Joan Chatalas Virginia Purpur Adviser President vice President Secretary Colleen Murray Student Council September brought with it a colorful and cur- ious group of new people known as freshmen. we wonder if it was the maps or Lincoln, our blank expressions, or our various tickets to Thomp- son's Old-Fashioned Freeze in the Annex, which the seniors so kindly bestowed upon us, that advertised our being freshmen. But it didn't take long for the boys to master the art of slouching in their seats in best senior style and the girls to know the names and faces of all the athletes. Our main activity this year was helping ir the clean-up drive. we also entertained the sophomore class with a movie and music provided by members of our class and assisted with the Christmas party. Paul Farrar'a 70 yard touchdown run in the closing seconds was the highlight of Lincoln's game. Lincoln 35-Queen Anne 0 The Lincoln squad came back in good form to trounce an undermanned Grizzly eleven. Jack Hard- man's 108 yards from scrimmage paved the way for the Abe victory. Mr. Nollan retired as hoop mentor this year, turning the reins overto Norm Dalthorp, his assis- tant. On the trophy is room for 20 more names, the 1951 addition being Collen Cruikshank. PHIL DE HASI B08 CAMPBELL 5' 10 NO. 5 Senior 6' NO' 8 Junior Coach Dalthorp did not come up with one of the mythical dream basketball teams which was slated to be right up there in the championship race. ln- stead from a City Championship and a 2nd in the State Tournament for the championship, he had one letterman returning with very little experience, that being Collen Cruikshank. Before the season started everyone expected the Lynx to be lucky to win but two ball games, that is, everyone except Coach Dalthorp and the team. The Red and Black started out the season by losing to Cleveland in the opener by one point, 39-38. Then they proceeded to lose to Garfield 32-36, Ballard U6-51, and Queen Anne 39-ui. Every game was a battle which showed what hustle, fire, and determinationthe team had. By this time they had gained a little experience, and this was enough to win the next three games by good margins, Franklin 52-36, who was without the services of Ken Darrow their star center, west Seattle 32-35, and an upset on their own floor against Cleveland 50-MZ. This winning streak was made possible by the fine playing of Orville Anderson who was the leading scorer in the city: Collen Cruikshank, who displayed a powerful backboard control game, and Bill Squibb, Don West, and Bob Herring who played agood all-around game. Next the Lynx met Garfield and Ballard who defeated them by close scores. Both of these games were tense with the Lynx leading until the final seconds. After this the Wallingford five caught fire and proceeded to win their next three ball gamesg Queen Anne 51-35, Franklin U9-UO, and west Seattle M7-N5. In this streak Orville Anderson and Collen Cruikshank pro- vided the winning punch. At the end of the league play the Lynx were tied with the Garfield Bull- dogs and the Franklin Quakers iith a six and six record for BFG place. This necessitated a play-off to decide who would play in Hec Edmondson Pavilion for 3rd and Nth place. Linooln drew Garfield for one spot and for the first time this year the Lynx handed the Bulldogs a sound grouncing U8-MZ. In the Pavilion, the Red and Black met the Bulldogs again and after a nip-and-tuck battle, drew within one point in the final minute where Bob Herring stepped to the foul line and sunk a shot to tie the score at 37-37. In the overtime the Bulldogs made three quick baskets to win the game and thus take 3rd place.
