Jackson, K4 Ecklesf F- 3OPkOf J- Chevelier, D. Orlando, B- While- This year the students of Lincoln High School have every right to be proud of their fine football team. The 1958 team has produced a winning season which shows six victories, two defeats, and one tie. This i958 team has captured the titles of Class A Championship of Beaver Valley and the Mid-Western Athletic Association. This season the brilliant Leopards have scored T72 points to their opponents' low output of 67 points. This shows that the Leopards had a well-balanced offense which at many times baffled the opposition. To comple- ment the team's sparkling offensive punch, the boys had a defensive platoon which- was said to be the best in the lower Ohio Valley. We must credit this fine showing to the superb coaching of Mr. John Petchel, Mr. Charles Polce, and Mr. Paul Farnan. The students of Midland High would like to congratulate not only the team but also the co-captains, Steve Ordich and Nick Vuckovich, for this successful season. The i958 Junior Hi Football Squad proved to be one of the most successful and talented aggregations of young athletes in many years. Through the capable coaching of Mr. John Wilson and his assistant, Nlr. George Ordich, they emerged with a sea- sonal record of three wins, one defeat, and one tie. Their schedule included some of the toughest opposition to be found in Beaver County. A 13-O victory over power- ful Monaca was the highlight of their grid- iron campaign. This group of stellar athletes gives a strong indication of what to expect from our varsity squads in the near future. Congratulations to the iunior high coaches and players for a iob well done. Teamwork and the urge to succeed made the 1958-59 Leopard Varsity Basketball Team champions of Section 8. Although they were upset by a powerful New Brighton team in the early stages ot sectional play, the determined Leopards struck back with an impressive 69-59 home victory over this same quintet and ultimately won the Section 8 Championship for the second consecutive year. This year was the fourth time that the Leopards have gained divisional honors under the leadership of their coach, George Hamilton. The value of three graduating seniors-Frank Aloi, Nick Vuckovich, and James Golphin -will definitely be felt, but next year's team should prove to be another strong contender. As our book is going to press our team is seeking the District 7 honors at the Pitt Field House. In compiling their record, they defeated many powerful AA schools such as Aliquippa, Beaver Falls, Ambridge, and Ellwood City. The team attributes their success to their inspiring coach, Mr. John Wilson, who is retiring as the iunior high mentor after many memorable years of faithful ser- vice. Although the season showed a record of three wins and five defeats, it does not depict a true account of this group's stellar accomplishments. Injuries to key individ- uals hindered their championship aspirations mid- way in the season. They did, however, prove to be the deciding element in the race for top honors in their section. The defeat which they administered to New Brighton in extra innings during the final week of the season gave Beaver the league title. A group of valuable seniors was lost through graduation. The coming 1959 season should show that hustle and heart make champions. l05 TOM STILLWAGON DON HYTE AL GRAHAM DON KANE GEORGE FRESTY MIKE HAYDEN BOB ECKLES BILL BRADFORD DEAN FREDERICK If k V Managers: A. Compiling a creditable record of six victories against only two defeats, the Leopard thinclads showed flashy form in all of their meets.
