PATROLS Stationed at their given posts. the patrols did their best to keep traffic from becoming congested. and thus enabled students to arrive at classes on time. These individuals were selected by hir. l-amberson to per- form their duties on the basis of dependability and scholastic standing. He then divided them into two parts, Groups A and B. Group A served for the entire first semester. and was then re- lieved by Group B. This plan enabled all the patrols to have equal opportunity to serve. They have done well and deserve some note ol commendation for their services to the school. STAGE CREW The stage crew ol Lincoln High School has done much in the past and will continue to do more in the future. The duties of the stage crew are caring lor all stage activities which are held in the auditorium. This would include the care of the lights and the public address system and the placing and replacing of scenery. This year a few chosen members who have artistic ability were called upon to malce new scenery. Thus the boys contributed much in the way of service to our school. They deserve many thanlcs lor their services. HI-Y This year, as usual, the Hi-Y has come out near the top of the school's list of the most active clubs. Under the sponsorship of Mr. Eugene Snyder they undertoolc a number of projects, all successful. One of the first was the showing of football movies to the sports-minded fans ol Midland. Later in the year they organized a film library for the school. renting films to show at the joint meetings of the Y Clubs. The highlight ol the year was their Hi-Y Ball on April the ninth which was held in the gym. As in the past. it was attended by all former Hi-Y members. and Mr. Hutchman, the former sponsor, was the guest ol honor. Thus. a year ol hard worlc ended in a night of fun. The ciubis objective is To seeic, to find. to sharef' Under the capable leadership of Mrs. Headiand the ciub completed many worthwhile projects. The giris aiso bought gray ciub sweaters with red strips on the right arm representing the number of years they had been in a Y ciub. The ciub met every other weeic during activity period on Tuesdays and had one evening meeting a month. The giris who are graduating hope that next year the new members wiii aiso have a successiui Se Fi S ciub. SENIOR TRI-HI-Y The Senior Tri-Hi-Y under the direction of Miss Lovejoy is an outstanding ciub at L. H. S. it is one of the many Y-ciubs here at schooi. This year its membership consisted of thirty-five girls, aii of whom were juniors. Meetings were heid every ciub period. and since movies constituted the Hi-Y evening meetings. the Senior Tri-Hi-Y did iiicewise. Being a service organization they gave their services at many schooi functions. They ushered at the band concert and the ciass piay. They aiso made their annuai Christmas contribution to Deshon Hospitai and coiiected money at the iocai theater for the March of Dimesf' JUNIOR TRI-HI-Y The Junior Tri-Hi-Y which consists oi Sophomore giris. was sponsored this year by Miss Presutti. Any giri who met the en- trance requirements was eiigibie for membership. The ciub's pur- pose was to create, maintain, and extend throughout the schooi and community higher standards of Christian character. Eight service hours per month were required of each giri. This made the giris' memberships worthwhile and created interest. From the numerous raiiies held in other schoois of the vaiiey the members obtained many new ideas for improving their ciub. Their sociai activities aiso were numerous and weii attended. P President-- .......... Mary Ann Conneiiy Vice President ...... Rose Marie Krivoshia Secretary ............... KNITTING AND CROCHETING CLUB The busy group oi girls in room IOI during club period was none other than Mrs. Staufieris Knitting and Crocheting Club. Most of the girls were inexperienced when the club was organ- ized: however due to the assistance of the club sponsor, many improvements can be noted. Many oi the girls completed knitting projects: scaris. gloves, etc. These girls and those remaining then began a new project of crocheted articles. The club consisted of twelve sophomores. junior. and senior girls. This group did not hold business meetings. for their gatherings were conducted as an informal sewing class. AERONAUTICS CLUB This group of boys was organized in order to instruct some ambitious young students in the art of iiying. They met every other week during the activity period on Tuesday. One subject which they never failed to discuss was how they would feel when they took their first airplane trip. Several of the boys had ridden in planes and the rest were always eager to hear them tell of their experiences. They discussed the advancement in the various types of planes now in use and compared the speeds of the modern jet engines with those of gasoline engines. PREPARATORY YEARBOOK CLUB Here's the place where a group oi ambitious students at- tempted to learn the why and how of a yearbook, What is a printer's rule? uVVhat is meant by a bleeding page? These were only two ol the many puzzling questions which their clubis members learned to answer this year. They did many small tasks which seemed insignificant at the time, but actually were very important and helpful to the workers of the senior staff. Some typed, while others mounted and identified pictures or checked write-ups. These experiences and the technical knowledge ac- quired will be of great value when each of their dreams of be- coming seniors and editing their own yearbook comes true. President ....... ..... RADIO CLUB The Radio Club which was sponsored by Mr. John con- sisted ol thirteen shop members who were interested in learning the fundamental principles of one tube receiving sets. Dues of thirty cents were collected every two weelcs from each member. At the end of the year the money thus collected was returned to the boys to purchase material for building receiving sets of their own. We wonder what lcind of reception the boys will be able to get. HOME ECONOMICS CLUB Under the strain of changing sponsors and a few shortened periods, the Home Economics Club accomplished very little this year. Miss Naugle was the first sponsor, but upon her resigna- tion. her duties were turned over to Mrs. Jones, who proved her- self capable in that capacity. The club consisted of twenty-one girls ranging from the tenth to the twelfth grade. It was planned that each girl malce at least one item in sewing depending upon her ability and experience in this field. Tn coolcing. the members were forced to worlc with food that required little time for prepara- tion. AUTOMOTIVE CLUB This club's membership was composed of a group of boys interested in the different mechanisms and functions of motors. it was particularly excellent for persons interested in mechanics. Many interesting topics were discussed. Among them were: elec- trical power and energy. the generator and its purpose. batteries and electrochemical actions, electrical and combustible engines, and the carburetor and its functions, that is. its mechanical usage in motors. Certainly this was one club in which the members profited by their attendance in the meetings. President .......... ..... J ohn Rodwny Vice President ............ Coach Ix',Ii'CillSiiP,f managed to matte a reaI contest out oi the Ivight ior Section 0 supremacy. After Ieading the parade tor the entire tirst haII OI the race. the Leopards Iost their stride against non- Ieague opposition heiore the second part of the VV. P. I. A. t.. competition opened. They iaiIed Io regain the form they had shown previousiy in the campaign. The Ioss of their ace hactccourt man, pat Shaver, mid-way through the season hecause oi iIIness greatIy hurt the BIue and GoId's titIe hopes. Pat s sIicIc Imll handting was a major factor in the success of the team up to that time. Our Iads were onIy moderatety successiut in the earIy season warm-up games. They start- ed oiltv on a sour note hy dropping the initiaI game to Avaton hut recovered quicidy to dump VVeIIsviIIe and Shenango. VX7ampum handed them their second Ioss hut the youngsters couId not he I1eId down. They gained revenge tor the opening deieat hy humping Avaion hut yietded to the scrappy Ettwood City comhination. A Ioss to Chester and victories over Xvampum and UreenviIIe rounded out the pre-Ieague schedute. Because of their sweep ot the IVIidIand Undergraduate Tournament Iast year and their previous record. Rochester had heen touted as the new section champions. Our hoys showed little regard Ior the Rochy reputation hy upsetting them in their iirst Ieague game. Midtand con- tinued merriIy on their way hy downing Ixftonaca. After a very cIose IJattIe all the way. Freedom edged out our cagers to intiict the Iirst sectionat Ioss. The maptemen came hack with tire and spirit to Icnoctc oft one of the most serious contenders. New Brighton. and aIso the ceIIar-dweIIers. Beaver. First hati standing showed Midland on top ot the heap with a tour and one record. At this point the Cats went into a slump. Burgettstown. FarreII and GreenviIIe. all ex- hihition competitors, gained wins at our expense. The fourth consecutive defeat came at the hands oi Rochester. to open the second oi the Section 9 games. The hoys tinaIIy hrotee the jinx hy whipping Ixtonaca, hut the chance for honors was compIeteIy ruined hy the titte hungry Freedom and New Brighton aggregations. The season was compIeted with a romp over Beaver. The tiinat chectc showed our Iads hreatcing even in their twenty-two games. Next year's squad shouid Ilare even hetter since there wiII he no men Iost hy graduation. and all six Ietter- men wiII return.
