While these are by no means all, the major ones are pictured here. '7aa71Juf eafie Lincoln High's students have a right to feel proud of their school's athletic achievements, both past and present. The Prowlers have been basketball champions of Region Eight five times, and in two of these years, l932 and l938, they went on to win the state title, too. ln the five years since the state high school hockey tournament was begun, the Prowlers have been on entrant twice, finishing as runners up in l945 and in third place in l95l. The Prowler track team is a title threat in the Eighth Regional track meet every year, and in regional competition, probably holds the best record of all sports. Putting everything together, Thief River's record can be placed with the best. . Athletic Director, Mr. N. Quentin Jones Lincoln High School is proud of its Coaching Staff, which it considers one of the best in the state. All of these men have had years of experience in the sports in which they are now coaching and can install these fundamentals into the boys playing under their direction. This staff has been steadily improving the caliber of athletics at Lincoln so that some day, in the not so distant future, the Prowlers will again consistently rank with the best in the state in all sports. Coach Johnson's squad started out the season with a bang by upsetting the tough Walsh County Aggies 7 to 6 in a hard fought contest. After defeating Red Lake Falls 6 to O, they lost consecutive games to Grand Forks, Grafton, and Bemidji. After an open weekend, during which several players who had been injured in the three previous games were restored to normal efficiency, they walloped Crookston 33 to l3. This year we can look for a good season in both sports, with two of last year's team returning in each sport. David Clough and Wayne Weflin are returning in tennis, while Jerry Tygeson and Wally Lane return in golf. JERRY TYGESON ml Z. . . Once again the twofold purpose of the G. A. A. has been accomplished. The first, to create an active interest in girls sports, is fulfilled by the seven sports offered and the interest the l00 girls obtained. The second purpose is to provide entertainment outside school hours for the members. This success has largely been due to the board members and the president, Cora Martinson. Advisors of the organization are Miss Audrey Larson and Miss Beverly Carlson. 1 The officers were elected at a meeting held last spring. The board members, in charge of managing the different sports, were elected at meetings held this fall. G. A. A. OFFICERS MISS LARSON lSEATED: Florence Walker, vice president, Cora Martinson, president. STANDING: Katherine Thomas, treasurer, Arlene Pederson, recording Secretary. MlSS CARLSON For each sport the girls turn out for they receive 50 points. After a member earns 800 of these points she is entitled to wear a chenille emblem, the highest award that may be earned. To earn money to keep the organization going, the G. A. A. operated hotdog stands at the football games and sold candy at a number of basketball games. Members were additionally encouraged to turn out for the various sports by the awarding of pins to the two best players in each sport. Basketball, which has the largest turn out, came to a climax with the picking of an All-Star team in addition to the two best player awards. Turn the page and see what makes the G. A. A. tick! A. mixed sleighride, was held on January 29, with approxi- mately thirty couples attending. Lots of food, games, and a program kept everyone busy. The biggest event of any year, the G. A. A. Playday, was held in the latter part of May, with eight towns attending, Basketball, softball, relays, soccer, and volleyball were played on a rotation system. The two winning teams signed their names to The Jug, a jug which each year is signed by the winners.
