Our education has been con- trolled by the forces of good so that our future is one in which we may make'our own choices and one into which none are barred or handicapped because of race, color, or creed. Is is not fitting then that we, who have freedom so abundantly given to us, should share it with those who have been denied the very right to think and speak for themselves? As you turn the pages of this book, as it brings to your mind the many pleasant experiences you have had at Lincoln High, let it also bring to your mind a thought of who have not had the opportunities you have received. To you, the youth of this nation, who hold the key to the future of our nation, of the world, lies the challenge to free all men into a world of un- known peace. ...Ati ,X A l xxx ,ff 2 , , ff X 5. , X --Q: .Q qfkf E ,. ff ff ,- N ,567 N fl 1 a v K ,fl ii X , H ! iii ?7i W1,' X ff Q31 X , i f Wi ilwlf Af N LM I R SX X Ag-bw gf' e fx ff ,, ink N X o f jf, Y Q , ,I 1 M! 17 NNN Q,, XN.'. Membership is based on scholastic achievement, participation in extra- curricular activities, general character, leader- ship, and service to the school during their three years of senior high school. The purpose of the National Honor Society is to honor those students who have taken leadership and responsibilities, and to create interest of underclassmen in extra-curricular activities. Twelve boys were chosen for the Athletic Scholarship Society with Roger Tunberg, Thornton Anderson, John Powell, Bradley Hanna, Bob Melby, and Phil Beadle repeating for their second year. ln order to gain mem- bership to this coveted organization they must have a scholastic average, for three semesters, as high or higher than the school's average and must have also earned a letter in at least one major sport. srmusmvgnpdunnpqgggg X ff f'A NX x ,f ff' ' , - A ff f NN M H C? 5 7 J xx if N f J ik? y xx ,. r J V I If! Friday evening, September 21, the Prowlers inaugurated the IQ45 season by decisively whipping an inexperienced VVarroad eleven. Four plays after the opening kickohc, the mighty men of Lincoln High rolled over for the first touchdown in the 45 to O rout. l It was the Grand Forks Central game that saw the Prowlers turn in their best performance of the season. The Central Maroons had every advantage and yet there is little doubt that the boys in Blue and Gold outmaneuvered, outfought, and outplayed their hurlier opponents to win a 23 to 0 decision. The Prowlers scored their third straight shutout win when they trounced a rugged Grafton team, 40 to o. Hovie took a lateral pass to open the scoring, but Bemidji converted a blocked punt into six points, to even the score. Late in the game the local eleven was stopped one yard short of the winning touchdown. The Prow-lers gave their homecoming queen, Arlyne Robinson, a 41 to 0 win over the Crookston Pirates. The Prowler line was practically impregnable with Ralph Foster, Bob Melby, Al Thompson, and Cliff Aase to stop the oppo- sition. The locals' speedy backfield rambled through the Pirates for many long runs. The Prowlers journeyed to East Grand Forks to conclude an undefeated season and become district champs by defeating the Green NVave, 38 to 0. The charming outdoor setting and the flashback into the early twentieth century from the story of fmodern romance made this presentation dif- ferent from any other play given in our school, and attributed to its suc- cess. The lovable old Professor Gaylord who told his own story in order to reunite the young lovers was played by james liiland. His story proved to Cfarol Clair, portrayed by Joan l,ynde, that love does endure forever and thus brought back to Brent Car- son, john Powell, whom she had given up for the football hero, Leo Saunders, Hob Melby, because she would have to 'w-ait for Brent to earn more money. To aid them in' their explorations they had an invention of the professors-the Amos Molecule Gold Detector. All went well until a band of niutineers led by the Black Spider fBob Melbyj were awakened from a two hundred years' sleep with the use of another Mole- cule invention. They captured the gold hunters and just as tragic results were inevitably in view, the pirate crew confessed that they were just students from Brighton College. Anticipating a rather dull trip for the explorers the pirates arrived ahead of schedule to liven the story.
