Prologue This year has been a year of machines and technological advancement. We have watched a man walk on the moon, seen steaks broiled in seconds with micro-wave heat, listened to computers tell us how to live our lives and witnessed the transplantation of human body parts. Despite all our scientific achievements however, we found that 1969-70 was not without problems. We saw poverty take its toll all over the world. We saw racism--a — festering cancer in the body of America. We saw campus demonstrations, anti-war protests, a rising crime-rate, a shrinking dollar, a growing population, an increasing threat of pollution and a deadly war that seems destined to go on forever. But behind all of these things--the good and the bad, the successes and the failures, the hopes and the disillusionments--we saw a spirit--a spirit which gloried in its tri- umphs, wept at its failures, and, most important, never stopped trying. That spirit, of course, is MAN. In this, the 1970 Quill, we hope to present a look, our own small look, at man. We hope to portray the human side of Lincoln High School--the student, the teacher, the administrator, the office worker, the maintenance man--anyone and everyone who is a part of the life blood of L. H. S. We dedicate this book to Lincoln High School and to the spirit of man which prevails there.
