N this, the second year of World War Il. all hearts are turned toward fathers. sons, and husbands in the service of our country. We, the editors of the 1943 Lincoln Quill, too, are thinking of the men in uniform as we complete the preparations for our annual. We dedicate our book to all the men and women of Lincoln High School who are now serving their flag and their country. As you turn the pages, you will miss the faces of many friends. Yet they are not really gone, for on every page, in every picture is some little reminder of their years here at Lincoln. We hope in a not too distant future, these Lincolnites may page through this small tribute and remember that all of us were thinking of them While they were away.

HE shadow of the scholar studying his lesson grows . . . to become the figure of E1 senior graduate, head high, meeting the challenge of the world. HE shadow of the teacher is the shadow of wellfremenihered words - a lengthening vista as the schoolhoy, on the open battlefield or in the whirl of a day's work, thinks of the classroom years. HE Senior steps into the light of a new world - his shadow falls on things to come - the things to he done. HE shadow of the letter V-' - a long shining ray of hope, victory, and peace.
