These ardent hopes and dreams are all fulfilled, And a heart of gratitude never to be stilled Shall travel the roads unblazedg A journey of doubt -- but unafraid. Shall taste joys which hardships needg Shall through life a memory bear Of ideals learned and cherished there. He was earnest in his endeavor to build real men-and no praise is too great for him. COACH TIERNAN A real inspirer he was, his vigorous pep talks put the men on their mettle and made for the ufight' ing Lincoln spirit. When it came to actual training. Coach Carroll could want no one better to help him. COACH MOLLICA He kept up the spirits of everyone, and could often be found in the midst of the scrimmage. Referee they called him, for such were his duties in all practise games. COACH COLE The reserves needed constant grooming, and King Cole was there to see that they got it. The boys are unanimous in voting him a real pal. Through the smoke and fog and mist they plodded for dear old Lincoln. With grim determinaf tion and a neverfsayfdie comf plex they fought the hattles of the gridiron, and enjoyed it. The rivalry among the schools this sea' son was unusually keen, and the games were all hard fought. It so happened that most of the boys were new-lacking in actual ex' perience, but they more than compensated for it with a real fighting spirit, Unfortunate reverf sals are always hard to take, but these lads carried on-for name, for coach, and for school! Always, they cleared the smoke away with undaunted enthusiasm. A rousing cheer for the 1931 Football Squad! THE QUILL ALEX BEHM We'll never forget the hairfraising ex' citement we experienced when he snatched those passes and skirted down the side of the field for thirty, forty, or fifty yards- trailed by a cloud of dust. ED BERRY Always tough and ready -Ed plowed through the line like a steam roller, and managed to let the other fellow know that he was there! Joi-IN BRITTON It was usually 'LBubbles who shot those zipping torpedo passes to his team' mates, and he never failed when it came to double or triple reverses. A colorful lad he was, out there on the field. CHARLES BRUNO Good old Silas Marner proved quite a stumbling block for enemy interference runners. He kissed the dirt, but he got his man-and sometimes two of them. GEORGE BRUSTERIS 'Reliable Brus was always on the job, and his looming bulk struck terror into the hearts of all opponents. It was self dom that a hole was opened through his post. Pagc Seventy-nine E T H. E Q U. l L L X Yyf VFP! V N i 5 CAPT. CURRO General Scratch took his playing serif ously. He realized the responsibility that rested on his shoulders. And how that boy fought! He was in all respects a real leader, and the fellows. liked him. MARIO CUTRIFELLI The sturdy warrior was always there. Injuries were trivial and nothing else mat' tered when it was necessary to stop that man. Capt,fElect Butch played the game. BOB FALLON Pewee they called him, and so he was But he more than made up for his size in real spirit. Cur opponents never told us how they enjoyed being tackled by the little Tarzan. V SANTO DE GAETANO The reserves were never asleep, and their wakeful leader was Santo. A small fellow who filled in the gaps with surprisf ing completeness. Whenever he played, he did his full share-and sometimes more. JAMES HARRIS The Flash was the most surprising element on our team in the eyes of op' ponents. In the role of running guard, he y suddenly popped up from nowhere-and into the air went a wouldfhe tackler- Page Eighty THE QIIILL DAVE HOLLAND He never talked much, but his actions spoke for him. When on the defense, Dave always anticipated an end run, so that when one came he was ready for it. ED LEIFER There he stood, towering above his teamfmates-and nothing escaped his eye. Whenever Ed was in there with the boys, a goodlyunumber of the enemy's prospecf tive gains ended in his waiting arms. LoN MERICLE Another little fellow, but with a lionis grit and determination. No opponent was too big for Bud -and he never failed to guard his end effectively-one small reason for his being awarded the Club medal. SAM SANSONE Invariably in the center of things, he let the other fellow know that he was there. All vouched for his toughness, and feared the deadly attack of Tiger Sansone . LEs SCHREIBER The impregnable manfmountainu was always wholly there, much to the enemy's dismay. Many a budding tackler was taken for a ride on the combined shoulders of Bing Schreiber and Flash Harris. Page Eighty-one l l i Page Eighty-tfu 0 THE QUILL TONY SEIDITA The ferocious, snarling panther well def scribes L'Wrestler Seidita -and he could grunt! But he let us know that he was there in other ways, too. CHARLES SIRNA Even though he was small, Riegels was usually in the thick of the fray. And when that boy Once broke loose with the ball under his arm, he was off on a real sprint. JOE REGAN Big Boy Regan was hard to get by, and a line smash seldom went through his position-rather, it went into it. An eff fervescent fellow, surely, but a real earnest worker upon occasion. WILLARD SHINNERS Manager Bill was always On the job, answering the urgent needs of all the boys -and he never shirked his routine duties. Hey, Bill-the bandages! JOE EBERHARDT Two heads are better than One, so two managers must be greater than One. Thus the services of Unser Choe were also Obtained-and indispensable they were. THE QHILL Basketball Squad For the Hrst time in over twenf tyffour years, basketball was ad' ded to the the list of competitive athletics between Milwaukee High Schools. The first City Basketball Conf ference race was a lively one, and when the clouds of smoke cleared -lo! there stood Lincoln proudly waving her banner on high! The team was a strong and flashy comf bination, ever determined to come out in front, and so it did. Statisf tics of the seasons games testify to the agressiveness of our squad, whose offense was considered one of the most dangerous throughout the entire race. Other teams will follow, 'but we will never forget the championship squad of 1932! COACH CARROLL As the thick smoke of battle hung low, Coach impatiently p a c e d the sidelines-always hoping his men would win, but more than thisvthat they would play the old game. COACH FOOT Coach Carroll's right' hand man deserves our plauclits for his untiring efforts through the sea' son's activities, uncertain- ties, and hnal triumphs. ARTHUR ANELLO Without his able assist- ance, the duties would probably not have been executed so smoothly. His was always a helping hand. EARL CHUPPA Together with Arthur and Ed, he saw to it that none of the fellows lack' ed attention. He could be depended upon at any time. Pagr Eighty-three Page Eighty-four THE Ql1ll..L HAROLD APPLEBY 'gRed was as quick as a flash of light' ning, and it certainly was great sport to watch him ramble over the court. A good shot! AL BAGIN A dependable fellow, who never failed to contribute his share when in the game. Une eye was always on the basket, and it wasn't a bad eye either. ALEX BEHM It was a real thrill to see him dribble down the court, halt abruptly, and arch a beautiful throw dead through the ring- a brilliant player. JOHN BRITTON It was uncanny how he managed to slip under the basket and sink a perfect pot shot. No wonder our opponents watched their defense when Bubs was there. ToM CoRRAo A very ,small lad, but what an eye he had for the basket! Tom was nimlble, too, and worked himself into the most select positions whenever he found his opporf tunity. THE QHILL EDGAR DALE Tall and lanky, Ed was a sure shot- especially when it came to free throws. And it was seldom that a rebound missed his agile fingers. GEORGE HACRL He could be depended upon to help in a pinch. If there was a weak spot some' where, it was assuring to see George come into the game. SAM SANSONE The boys all enjoyed Sam's leadership. There was never a time when he failed to come through with a line performance, and he did his best in every game. LES SCHREIBER Lofty Les -an imposing figure as he nonchalantly reached up and placed the ball into the basket. And he could make the length of the court in five seconds flat, besides! EDWARD MARTIN Managerial duties are the least glorified, but managers are needed, so Red jumped into the job-and did his work well. Page Eighty-flue T--1+ - -- THE OHILL Jaw re, l Page Eighty-.fix Track Squad COACH CARROLL Some athletes may be born, but a coach is needed to guide and train them. Coach Car' roll deserves the greatest possible credit as our all around athletic director. COACH FOOT It was with the very able assistance of Coach Foot that Red brought the boys through one of our best seasons. JOE MATTIOLE He felt the responsif bility of manager very keenly, and his services were always rendered with a serious aspect. HERMAN STOLTMANN Hoiman and Choen cofoperated very eifecf tively in their duties, and nothing was ever lacking. Through the smokey, haze of uncertainty and unfamiliarity with an outside track, our squad of 1932, though smaller than usual, came through the season with a creditable record. Under the flawless coaching of Mr. Carroll and Mr. Foot, there were some ine performers in a variety of events. Mario Cutrifelli starred in the shotputg John Dick in the high jump, ibroad jump, and mile, Charles Sirna and Harf old Appleby in the dashes, and Edgar Dale in the high jump. In spite of inadequate facilities, the team did remarkably well. The squad used the Normal School track, and while they are grateful to the Normal School for this privilege, they were hampered somewhat in their work by the distance to and from the field.
