CUSTER -19' DEAN OF GIRLS DEAN OF BOYS HELEN GATCHEL RICHEY OUR FACULTY If you look up the word teacher un the dictionary you wall fund it as one who teaches or instructs especially one whose profession us instructing However this nsn't the complete picture Our teachers though holding many degrees in the field of education do not, as many believe spend all of their time In the school room In the first place our teachers act as consultants for our many problems such as what courses to follow and what clubs will be of the most value They also show us how to study and get along with others If we ask they are always willing to give us advice on our outside worries no matter how small they appear They are interested In our various athletic and social events At the games one at dances and parties we fund them always ready to lend a helpmg hand The faculty have their own interests too Most of them have families that take up a lot of their time The coaches spend much of their time training the various teams Some teachers are members of cnvlc leagues a few work at furthering their education and others have hobbies such as bowling weavmg takmg care of their pets or growing flowers Three of our teachers Mr Ruche Miss Ho kms and Mrs Francis are shown Y P pursuing their recreational activities can always find the teachers, along with the students, cheering the team on. They won the 120 yard high hurdles and the discus respectively. For the second time in the season the Lincoln Lions met Lehman and North Canton. Although the Lions took seven first places to Lehman's five, they were defeated by Polar Bears who Picked up most of their points on second and third places. The Lion's cindermen then ended the track season by taking a second place in the All-City meet. Mc- Kinley nabbed twelve events while the best the Lions could do was to capture two, the pole vault and the discus. The Lincoln Lions were unsuccessful in their opening game of the baseball season as the Lehman Polar Bears defeated them by a score of five to one. Joe Seich pitched a brilliant game, permitting only three hits and striking out fourteen batters. However, he was charged with the loss as the Lions gave Lehman four unearned runs in the fourth inning. Jim Lindesmith pitched his way to a one hit shutout and a victory for the Lions as they whipped North Canton by a score of three to one The Lincoln nine behind the four hit pitching of George Knupp scored their second consecutive shutout victory as they defeated the Central Catholic Crusaders They smashed sux hits off Central pitching and recorded their second victory in three starts The Tnmken Trogans handed the Lions their second loss of the season by the score of three to one Once again the Lions were unable to back Joe Seach s pitching as he hurled a terrific two hitter Although the Lions rapped six huts they were only permitted one run by Timken hurlers BASEBALL ROW B Dleble D Nehlen D Fllnmon J Melchoir R Moor L Sierra Absent G Love G Knupp F Schmidt Lincoln suffered their third setback at the hands of the Massillon Tigers The pitching of Jim Lindesmith did not prove as effective as in his previous starts They allowed Massillon five runs ten hits Once again the Lions were handed a loss as the McKinley Bulldogs defeated them by a score of sux to one Lincoln s only tally came In the first inning on an error a passed ball and a single The Lions had to battle North Canton for eleven innings before taking a five to one decision George Knupp gave up only four hits while striking out eighteen The Lions ended their regular season with a three win four loss record The Lions drew McKinley in the first game of the tournament and were defeated in the ninth inning of play At the end of the regulation game of seven Innings the score was tied at three runs apiece Then in the first half of the ninth inning the Bull dogs came up with three runs to ice the decision . . . , . .
