This is Lincoln High School, 1961. We are the students . . . sophomores, juniors, seniors. .. some of us beginning and some of us ending our high-school careers. We have seen 1961 as a year of ad- vancements, a year of challenges, a year of experiments . . . closed campus, 8 o'clock classes, large lecture groups, train-trip migrations to games, a Russian language class. Even traditional rooms and publica- tions have a new appearance . . . the Advocate printed with the Veritype ma- chine, the Lin s with a new school seal, the music practice rooms with sound-proof walls, the patio with its green and white furniture, the lounge with booths and a remodeled concessions area, the science laboratories with new equipment. faujL, s - Z. 0 'gdJ z; ' Page 5

In accepting the new, we have not neglected the traditions of which our school is proud . . . the call to colors and the flag salute at assemblies, sound announcements each morning, the foreign language lab, Joy Night, the opera, plays, L pins, the green- house, the shops, honors convocations, the Scribe. We won't forget the enthusiastic spirit at the all-school rallies and games, the reverent attitude at Christmas and Easter assemblies, the jubilant cheers in the locker room after a victory and the hushed silence after a defeat, the fun of signing yearbooks, the excitement of the Homecoming cere- monies and the All-Sports Banquet.
