After four years as Superintendent in Ames. lowa, Dr. Watkins came to Lincoln where in addition to his other duties, he is developing and taking an active part in promoting a long'range huilding program for the Lincoln school system. He has the general responsihility for promoting the program of the Lincoln Puhlic Schools. working with pupils. teach' ers, community groups. and the Board of Education. Of special interest to Lincoln High pupils is the fact that Dr. Vxfatkins, an alumnus of L.H.S.. once played varsity foothall for the Red and Black. Curriculum development and coordination ol the instructional program are the chief responsif hilities of Dr, james H. Pelley. who is Associate Superintendent. This includes coordination of super' visory services. supplying adequate hooks and teach' ing materials, and such other matters as pertain to the improvement of instruction in all grades in the Lincoln Puhlic Schools. from kindergarten through high school. lvluch of this work is carried on through the cooperative efforts of teacher committees repref senting the various schools. ln his leisure time. WILLIAM B. BOGAR Principal of Lincoln High School Adventures in Dail Living In life we frequently look with envy upon those hlcssed with possessions and traits which we would like to have. We tend to minimize our own worth and happiness or the contrihution we can make. We need constantly to refexamine the values which we consider important. In our philosophy three ideas must occupy a central place: l. The intrinsic worth of each individual. 2. Qur faith in the other fellow. 3, The opportunity to live, work, and act with and for others. School is a laboratory in which we practice and prepare. To work hard and honestly with conf fidcnce in parents. students, and teachers must he a fundamental guide. In so doing we appeal to the hest in the spirit of others. To me, each day is one to he faced serenely and confidently with knowledge that we can reap as we sowf' The best guide to success is a practical applicaf tion of The Golden Rule. Lincoln High School hy its very nature, is dedicated to ideals of service, faith, and worth of individuals. If we work conf scientiously with these simple values to guide our daily actions, we can reap rich rewards in satisfacf tion, happiness, and adventures in daily living. Willizini B.
