Vxfilley. of M. C. Lefler. Dr. W'illey comes to Lincoln with twenty years of experience behind him, having served as super- intendent in the Trinidad, Denver, and Pueblo, Colorado, school systems. Expressing his enthusiasm for the Lincoln schools, he emphasized the fact that both teachers and patrons have shown unusual in terest in improving all phases of the Lincoln schools. This year, while serving in the capacity of asso- ciate superintendent, Dr. Willey' became acquainted with the Lincoln school system and had direct re- sponsibility for the instructional program. He felt that he had good opportunities during this year to lay plans for the future. A specific accomplish' ment during this period was the development of the organization for instructional improvement. This plan involves all of the teachers and is -cl to permit everyone concerned to make a L, .M tion towards improving our schools. Mr. Willey has a personal contact with Lincoln high school, for his daughter Miriam is a senior here. He is interested in knowing all of the Lincoln pupils better. ACHL E QF EDUCATION Of his twenty-eight years of service as superin- tendent of schools. Millard C. Letler stated: lt has been a very great pleasure and opportunity to be associated with the l.incoln school system. l have great faith in the ultimate effectiveness of demo- cratic education. l wish to recommend to the Lincoln pupils the constant pursuit of this kind of education with the view of making their lives count in the greatest possible way in the day in which they live. The world sorely needs young men and women of character who are thoroughly prepared and devoted to useful service. On ul' l. 1948, Millard C. Letler's resi 'nation . ln ' I in becomes effective and he will step down from the position of superintendent of the Lincoln schools, Mr. Lefler has been associated with the Lincoln school system for thirty-one years. He first came to this city in l9l7 as assistant principal of Lincoln high school. For the next two years, he was assist- ant superintendent of the schools and research director for the city. In 1920 he became super- intendent and has held that position ever since. 'Jer observed that the percentage of cin.-i.e., v-. ho now graduate from high school has grown considerably and there have been great gains in the holding power of the schools.
