They have sailed across fhe oceans and fracked fhrough endless wasfes fo engage fhe enemy fhaf fhreafens our far flung fronf. Iceland, Brifain, Sicily, Africa, lfaly, China, Ausfralia, New Guinea, Hawaii, fhe Aleufians, are all sfrange and foreign places where boys who leff fheir homes fo save fhem are bloffing ouf fheir homesickness fhrough vigorous and unceasing efforf. They have experienced fhe ufmosf in swelfering heaf and bifing cold fhaf fhe elemenfs can inflicf. They have seen fheir buddies fall by fheir side. Many have been grievously wounded fhemselves. A few have even made fhe final sacrifice. To fhese, we af home owe a debf so greaf fhaf if can never be paid. If shall always live in our hearfs bringing rededicafion fo fhose ideals for which fhey gave fheir lives. Gazing across fhe seas, we af home perceive fhe sufferings, fhe hardships, and fhe sacrifices of fhose over fhere. Under fhe inspirafion of fheir daunfless courage and fhe driving obligafion fhaf resfs on us from fheir sacrihces, we of Lincoln high school are doing much fo reach ouf fo fhe men in our world wide fronf. We are seizing every opporfunify fo hasfen fhe final friumph 'rhaf musf be ours. The home economics deparfmenf has been preparing quanfifies of Red Cross boxes and fhe enfire school has acfively supporfed fhe Red Cross work. The Vicfory Corps has held salvage drives for buffons, paper, and mefal scrap. All classes have been revised fo include fhe new concepfs and knowledge fhaf fhe war has broughf fo fhe fore. l-lisfory classes are learning abouf global geography, new maps, and surprising geopolifics. Algebra and geomefry sfudenfs are working on various fypes of milifary mafhe- mafics. Science groups are making especial efforfs fo absorb vifal war informafion. Firsf aid and hygiene, fwo subiecfs vifally imporfanf now, are 'raken by every sfudenf. Pre- inducfion and sporfs classes are popular elecfives among fhe boys. Foofball, baskefball, baseball, and frack 'reams are filling a very imporfanf fask in sfrengfhening and developing sfrong bodies. The physical condifioning and rigorous fraining of fhese evenfs will make beffer men and beffer soldiers of our boys. ln all fhese ways Lincoln high school is coordinafing ifs efforfs wifh fhose of our fighfing men. We who are responsible for fhis book have placed before us as our goal, fo presenf, as complefely as possible a panorama of life in Lincoln high school during fhis year. We have included ifs difhculfies and ifs successes, ifs friumphs in sporfs, ifs achieve- menfs in scholarship, ifs programs foward building characfer, and ifs broad ouflook for fhe fufure.
