Mr. Mardis during his regular morning broadcast to every home room. Harold C. Mardis, Principal Always numerous, the problems of Harold C. Mardis have increased rapidly in the last year. One of these is the job of advising draft age boys, and requesting their deferment. The local selecf tive service board has been very cooperative, since not one deferment requested for a high school boy has been refused. Another problem is that of planning new courses and rearranging old ones to s keep up to date with changing conditions 5 and fit students for life in a warring world. The prefinduction course, and first 5 aid, required of all pupils, are two of the new classes being offered. An improvement in the registration prof cedure, doing away with all January regisf tration, is one of Mr. Mardis's latest ideas. The plan takes into consideration the fact that soon there will be no students entering from junior high schools in january Classes will be reorganized on a two' semester plan. This year there has been an incrcasing attempt to provide timely programs, conf necting the war effort to high school work. One of the most effective was the assemf bly for boys only, in which he pulled no punches in reminding them of their duties to the work in general and Lincoln high in particular. Mr. Mardis came into personal contact with a number of students through the regents and the ArmyfNavy examinations which he gave. His clear explanations and amusing comments before the tests and during the brief rest periods provided a relaxing atmosphere, which induced everyf one to do his best. In addition to his school duties, Mr. Mardis helps civilian defense in Lincoln as zone airfraid warden for all of the city east of Twentyfsecond street. Directly and indirectly, Harold C. Mardis is doing his part in bringing victory to the nation. ,...iHii wif, kd Wa Directions are given to boys taking the Navy V112 and Army A42 by Mr. Mardis. llll
