Cross Countr Being a young team this year, Lincolns cross country showed a lot of spirit, pride and enthusi- asm. Coach Watson cited that much improve- ment will show next year as the team has had a whole year of practice together. As an outstand- ing member of the team, Senior Willis Bell a three year letterman took four first places to Stadium, Franklin Pierce, Clover Park, and Bellermine. Willis also qualified to go to the State meet. At the state meet Willis came in 36th with 160 participating. Steve Kiesel a Junior on the cross country team has also helped the team out a great deal. Varsity Basketball The basketball team end the regular season with a 13-6 record. They started by winning the hoop-go-round. Even though lack of experience and height would be a big factor throughout the season the team continued to surprise the students and faculty, and know one dreamed of another city championship. Mark Patterson and Stacy Todd con- trolled the boards throughout the season. Also Darrel Kitt and Otis Garrison lead the Abes in team and in city league scoring. Playmaker Jack Newhart controlled the Abes on court. Eugene Glenn and Ken Harpel played very im- portant roles as 6th and 7th man during the season as the Abes dominated the city league. They captured their seventh city league championship in 8 years under coach Ron Billings. But toward the end of the season the Abes lost their composure to end the season in defeat, but the Abes were favored in the play offs. For further in- formation on the play offs turn to page 180.
