29 Driver Education Stresses Defensive Driving M ..,...... . 'S ' -V . Greg Anderson reaches for a spare tire. Throughout the past two semesters, drivers education has stressed defensive driving to the Abe students. They are required to have a total of six hours behind the wheel during their four months of class. This is not a great deal of driving, but the student is given a chance to go through various maneuvers and to drive in certain traffic situations under the guidance of the instructor. Besides the actual driving, the student collects twelve hours of observation in the car and thirty hours of class time. During class, students used text books, films, and guest speakers to supplement their learning. The students had to learn driving skills, knowledge of traffic regulations and laws, plus a respect for law enforcement personnel. The course also had some influence on the students' at- titudes eoncerning their role in the traflic situation of today. This is just one of the many classes provided here, that the students will be able to project into future life. Greg Anderson and Mark Decato change tire while Nlr. Weese looks on. -qv'
