13 Expands the Studies to Train Students Well This year the Business Education Department brought the actual office situation to the classroom by the addition of the Simulated Office class. Here students underwent training they will receive as new employees of the telephone company as service representatives. Taught by Mrs. Smith, the stu- dents of the Communications Unlimited, Lincoln Exchange took care of their twenty-five so-called customers, telephone accounts. A student in this class also learned the basics of any business. Form design and duplicating of stationary, preparing city and federal tax bills, applying correct telephone techniques, and answering correspondence letters were just a few of the procedures incorporated in the course. Q Because the role of the consumer is so im- portant the Consumer Economics class was brought back to Lincoln. This class, taught by Mr. White, emphasized personal finance and consumer interest which all adds up to how to avoid ini-lation. Other classes that make up the Business De- partment were Typing, Shorthand, Business Math, Office Machines, and Distributive Education. The D.E. classes ran the school store, the D.E. Den. All the classes in the Business Department were designed to train students for their future as businessmen, secretaries, or workers involved in business machines of all types. 5, ':::-Q. Instead of using the standard four-colored pictures that have been used in the past three years, editor Michele Johnson chose to use the more modern color-effects. Mezo-tints were used on the opening pages of the book and colored paper for the division pages. Other changes were made in the book, too. Grouping individual pictures did away with the old upostage-stampv effect. Sports also varied their section to help make the book better than before. This yearis staff was made up of sixteen mem- bers with William Sullivan as advisor. Everyone worked hard during and after class to get their pages together by the mid-April deadline. The highlight of the year for the staff came when they had their chance to 'thami' it up during the First Annual Annuali' Assembly on November 10. The promotional show consisted of several short skits resembling the television show Laugh-ln. The show proved to be a success as annual sales rose to help meet the growing cost of printing. Staff members Janet Hein and -Sandy Branden paste down final pictures while Denise Hoard, Diane Harris, and Steve Smith supervise.
