So, when Trumbull is ordered fo go fo l-lagersfown, Barbara goes fhere fo marry him. While preparing for fhe wedding af 'lhe minisfer's house, Trumbull is called fo baffle. Lafer Barbara shoofs a Soufhern soldier fo profecf her lover. Trumbull is wounded in baffle and Barbara hides him in her home. Mr. Friefchie discovers Trum- bull, buf Barbara persuades her fafher fo allow him fo remain. The lives of bofh Barbara and Trumbull are endangered by fhe populace when fhey furn againsf Barbara who defies fhem wifh a Union flag. General Sfonewall Jackson gives his famous order fo shoof anyone who harms eifher Barbara or fhe flag. When fhe play begins, some years offer Mr. Bean's deafh, an excifed world is in pursuif of his work and defails of his life and characfer. The l-laggeff family, who have some of fhe arfisf's painfings, suddenly realize fheir value and become hard, selfish, and ill-Tempered. lf is Abby, fhe family servanf, who has one of his greafesf painf- ings, which she cannof be persuaded fo sell or give away. Abby is fhe only one who really undersfood and appreciofed fhe arfisf, and her marriage +o him is revealed. Alfhough each charocfer was excellenfly porfrayed, Paul Jacobus was parficularly oufsfanding in 'rhe parf of Dr. l-laggeff.
