Mr. Vandenbelt con't. Mr. Vandenbelt has been the superintendent, here at Lincoln for the past 14 years, and now withthe senior class, he will elso be saying: good-by to Lincoln School at the end of this school year. Mr. Vandenbelt, who is now 62 years young, will enter business in this area on a part-time basis upon his retirement. A native of Fremont, he took over as superintendent at Lincoln after five years as principal at Roosevelt High School. Prior to his coming to this area, he had taught in rural schools in Newago county, was principal of Saginaw and Ludington schools and superintendent of Bad Axe schools. Ben H. Vandenbelt also worked for the State Department of Public Instruction and Michigan State Normal College. A 1923 graduete of Central Michigan College at Mt. Pleasant, he received his master's degree from the University of Michigan five years later. A member of the County Board of Education since 1946, Mr. Vandenbelt has served two terms as it's president. He is also a 31 year member of Rotary International, and has been president of the Marshall and Ypsilanti Clubs. Mr. Vandenbelt's other Community activities include terms as director and president of the community Chest, a member andd former director of the local Board of Commerce; and former chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Methodist Church. Mr. Vandenbelt is an ardent hunting and fishing enthusiast but, says his main hobby is the drawing of building and house plans. He has proven his skill and ability in the later field by drawing up the plans, with the aid of his son Benjamin, for his son's present home on Grant St. Again, the seniors would like to thank you, Mr. Vandenbelt.
