GJERDE ADMHNHSTRATHCDN PRINCIPAUS MESSAGE Joseph Newton once said, The people are lonely because they build walls instead of bridges. Students of Lincoln High should never be lonely since they have built many bridges as exemplified by this yearbook and its pictorial record. I am certain that because of these bridges they shall forever dispel loneliness by reviewing the friend- ships made in high .school and the companionship recorded within this book. This yearbook only helps to record the ways in which the students, and this year's senior class in particular, have done to leave Lincoln High a better place because of their presence. The seniors now leave us to enter the biggest room in the world-the room for im- provement. Mr. Robert Smith, Principal SUPERINTENDENTS MESSAGE My wisdom is, that the time was never lost that was devoted to this book. The good work- man never says, There, that will do, but, There, that is it, and come again, it will last always. I believe the Tiger Staff should be happy and con- tent with having acquired the skill to produce this fine memorabile. May they willingly wait when the occasion ot making it appreciated shall arrive, knowing well that it will not loiter. Mr. Donald D. Highlighting Homecoming was Detlating the Blake Bears to the tune of a l3-l 3 tie. A heartbreaking loss by a single point to Kenyon resulted in a toss up for the Hiawatha Valley League Championship. Wayne Steffenhagen, iunior, and Pat Maloy, senior, were rated as outstanding by Coach William Kieffer. Maloy and Jerry Berg got an Honorable Mention to the All-State team. .eu -af f F U U T B A lla lla, Score- Lake City a..,., l 3 Stewartville ..,, 6 Lake City aec,,. a...,a 1 9 si. Senior Editor Rose Abraham, Junior Editor Sylvia Kaasa, Adviser Gordon Foss, from the first, stimulated our enthusiasm and imagination in making our yearbook a successful one. Mixing fun with work we had a pizza party to celebrate our final decision in choosing the cover for the book. A mass vote of the school was held to determine that again we wanted a summer annual. The separation page editors set to work thinking up new and dramatic divisional pages. Copy writers and typists labored endlessly as they wrote and re- wrote, typed and retyped, finishing lust in time for each deadline. Senior activities and underclassmen were photographed by Edstrom Studio. Soon the staff had the job of identifying faces. Athletics, action shots and candids were taken by Mr. Foss. A bulk of the work-laying out the pages, was then left. Many hours were spent by each editor planning, measur- ing, cutting, making dummies until each page was completed. Section by 'section the Tiger went to press. Moments of ioy and sadness filled us as we sent in Class Nite, Baccalaureate, and finally Commencement. Although there had been many last minute details, hurried copies, deadlines and rushing while finishing each step, the fun and satisfaction proved to us that our iourney had been accomplished. An English Comedy, Around the World in 80 Days, was the play put on by the Seniors on April 24-25. Fogg, an unbending Englishman, sets out around the world on a wager that he can make it in 80 days. Along with his loyal valet, Passeportout, he encounters many dangers. Be- cause he stops to rescue an Indian Princess, Aouda, he thinks he's tive minutes late but is saved by the International date line. Novelty ticket sales, cos- tuming, painting, publication and much practice made this production, under the direction of Mr. Lyman C. Bringgold, a play that will be long remembered. At Commencement at Lincoln High school, June 2, l958, her words were: Mankind is perpetuated by the torch of knowledge, passed on from one generation to the next. To carry this brilliant flame which ra- diates the warmth of wisdom, understanding and courage is a privilege-ours, and granted to us by you who have bestowed upon us the priceless gift of education . . . We accept your challenge, and we will carry it highly and proudly. We won't allow our flame of knowledge to die, but rather it is our aim to kindle it to greater warmth and deliver it to our children with higher hopes and less fears . . . Time and circumstances may scatter us afar, but we have the common bond of knowledge and truth-power and freedom.
