Providing this atmosphere and perfecting these facets have been the goal of our fine principal, Mr. Charles H. WVilliams. VVorking through the faculty which has come to share his feelings, he offers us a program which enhances the qualities of logic and thought which have ascended with man through the ages. lNorking directly with the students, he strives to develop character which he realizes is separate and distinct in each young person. His success is measured in friendsg his reward in the feeling of accomplishment at a job well intentioned, well planned, and well done. No one is more worthy of our admiration, more deserving of our praise than he. From the day of its founding almost a decade ago, Lincoln has undergone many changes, all under the keen guidance of this man who has devoted himself to the well-being of his students. Therefore, it is in the light of these fine qualities that we proudly dedicate our yearbook to him. 71 WWM fix 73.-.f FACULTY' 3- 4:41. I was almost finished the whole exercise, and now I have to start all over again for one miserable mistake! This was the familiar noise and heart-rending cry issuing forth from certain corridors of the school building. Here was the realm of the commercial students, where they worked their way through junior business training and on to clerical practice. Suddenly they found themselves feeling quite capable with typing shorthand and sometimes bookkeeping As seniors transcription and senior office practice were the vogue and the students were to be seen gazing at ceilings thinking in terms of shorthand symbols and typewritten business letters After graduation these pupils will scatter to many different walks of life Some will pursue higher education at business schools Others may seek jobs in private oflices banks or other businesses S Weiss Dept Head First Rau L Graf XI ONe1ll N1 Gaynor S Abrams E Kravitz V Slumpo S Klein Second Hou L Alleman R Cohen R Petterolf M Sher I Abrams Third Rau S Weiss C lentner F Hess 17 ,A ! Physical ducation Department So--- . . . and onto the scientific shelf fe f Bright and early in the morning, be it spring, summer, fall, or winter, we were marched outside to be physically educated. This was the dawn patrol, the ritual which plagued us daily despite dew, fog, and sleep-laden eyelids. Throughout four years we staggered through stimulating exercises, wore a rut over the long and short trails, and enjoyed exhausting competition. The strange part of it was that as we became more skillful at sports and apparatus, we actually came to like it! The teachers who supervised our physical education also had the privilege of teaching us hygiene. Under their excellent instruc- tion we discovered and learned how to improve our personalities. Practical first aid, general instruction in everyday life, and the systems of our bodies were other areas of study. Finally, in the most talked about course at Lincoln, senior hygiene, we were told the true facts of life. There is a definite difference between boys and girls -boys play football! ww. . That was the theme of Lincoln's Jamboree. In 1959 more spectators than ever came to see the result of weeks of practice. The performers of the show worked toward perfection. and the effort was climaxed in our circus extravaganza. Color, music, and excitement combined to make competition keen and enjoyment sincere. Gymnastics He ,glides through the air with the greatest . . . Who glides through the air? Certainly this is no ques- tion which would ever enter the mind of a Lincolnite. This song was written as a description of our gym team. Daring, muscular, and perfectly co-ordinated, this group of Adonises won the public league cham- pionship every year of our high school career. In addi- tion to displays of strength for Philadelphians, our gym team received high commendation upon their annual performance at West Point. Under the direction of Coach Phil Schneider the team made the most difficult feats seem as easy as a simple exercise. It was the night of the Senior Prom. To the soft strains of melodies played by lVayne Barrie and his orchestra, starry-eyed girls glided over the floor with the boys who were, for one night, stu- dent princes. M V :A 1 xg ji IL4. 74 ,. Although confused with the sudden change and laden with homework, we somehow managed to survive our freshman year. Sophomore Year As returning sophomores knowing all the answers, nothing seemed beyond our powers. To us alone was devoted an entire eve- ning for our Sophomore Hop, and in all activities we finally felt completely at home. Rules became less binding and homework less conhning as we invented our individual easy-going school-life rou- tines. Again we pulled through with flying colors and looked for- ward to becoming honored upperclassmen. --- ...I Well, I don't believe that's the Hlhite House.
