Never have the members of the June l955 class known a time ot complete peace. We were raised during the first battle-cries of World War ll. When the last shadows of this struggle retreated, we lived amidst the rumblings and then the turies of the Korean conflict. Now, with our world still in a precarious state of unrest, is it not natural that our thoughts, our hopes, our prayers are concerned with the question of peace? When will we achieve a lasting peace? Abraham Lincoln is quoted as saying, Until all men are equal and all are tree. there will be no peace. After the battle, after the blood and wounded, when the chains are smashed and the whips are broken, and the men who held the whips are dead: when men are brothers and men are free: the killing will end, the war will cease . . . then tree men will have a 'Free men's peace. With the hope that the truth of these words will soon be realized, we dedicate our yearbook to the dream of lasting peace. However. the dedication of a book is but a gestureg words alone are empty and meaningless. Therefore, let us also dedicate ourselves to that same goal. God grant that we be willing and able, and that we falter not in the task which lies betore us and others like us-the task ot attaining a lasting world peace.
