orewor j We present to you the 1948 volume of the Lincolnian, In these pages we have attempted to bring to our readers, with a few changes from presentations of years gone by, a pictorial summary of life at Lincoln High. Because of most regrettable circumstances, pictures of our band and of our ROTC were omitted from this volume. We are extremely proud of both these organizations and thus are indeed sorry about this mischance. It is our sincere hope, however, that this book will always bring happy memories to stu- dents, graduates, and faculty members. To those who are donning the cap and gown and saying good- bye to Lincoln go our best wishes . . . Ave clique vale! © ADMINISTRATION © FACULTY © CLASSES © SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ORGANIZATIONS

Oh that some angel voice was near , To sing these notes of gladness, To chase all silence from the air That fills our hearts with sadness; For gladsome notes our lips would breathe of Lincoln. O, Lincoln High, O, Lincoln High, T ho’ from thy guiding hand we stray, Thy memories will cheer the way; O, Lincoln High, O, Lincoln High, O , Lincoln High, O, Lincoln High. In fancy’s light we see thy walks, Her sunshine plays upon you, Her vapors linger ’round thy walls, Like ghosts of love so true; Like treasured dreams of times long past In Lincoln, dear old Lincoln, Like treastired dreams of times long past at Lincoln.

Earl D. Thomas, Principal A.M. University of Chicago Earl D. Thomas, Principal. My Friends: I take pleasure in recommending your gradua- tion from the Lincoln High School and Junior College. You have reached the end of another period of your public school education. Gradua- tion should indicate that you are ready to pur- sue studies toward professional employment or you are ready to enter vocational training or pri- vate employment. Graduation from Junior Col- lege indicates courage and persistence in pursuing formal education. The two years of additional training above the high school should better en- able you to take your place in the vocational world. To all of you, my sincere hope that the years to come will be happy and profitable, that you will continue to learn and to contribute to the welfare of your race and country. That, only, is the purpose of your training. Sincerely, Girard T. Bryant, Vice-Principal Dean, Junior College A.M. University of Kansas
