Fourth year home economlcs student Joan Angoll spends hor free perlod In the sewing room. talent . . Students in home economics classes prepared themselves for the responsibility of caring for a family. They planned simple meals accord- ing to the nutritional needs of the body. The girls also designed and sewed their own clothes. Reports were presented monthly to acquaint them with newly acquired informa- tion in the field of homemaking. Stu- dents also prepared gifts and decora- tions for Christmas. Art students experimented with a variety of new techniques. Projects included work with sculpture, ceram- ics, wood block prints, pottery, water color painting, batik, and jewelry. Art courses also incorporated a sequen- tial study of art history. Art Ill and IV students were required to submit term papers relating to phases of art or art history. Classes also studied architecture as an art form and in- dustrial design. The vocational as- pects of art were stressed for stu- dents who wish to continue develop- ing their talent after high school. In baking a pie, Sandy Wegner blends the pie crust with a pastry blender as Cindy Kollath combines various ingredients by hand. 26
