Ancl Application Lynn Baldwin assists Judy Tienor by pinning up her hem. RT represents a vital area of man's experience. The stu- , dent participating in any year of art expresses his ideas, beliefs, and values throughhis work. First year students strive to isolate and identify the basic vocabulary of art. Such areas as drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, architecture, graphic art, and art metal are studied. Second year students investigate the fields offine arts or crafts. Here, one searches for philosophical and skill aspects of paint- ing, drawing, graphics, and sculpture. Visual material such as films and slides aid the students. The area of crafts is explored as a form of creative expression. Again, philosophical and skill aspects are investigated in depth. Art metal, ceramics, glass, commercial art, and industrial design are covered. Advanced third and fourth year art courses promote study and perfection in a specific field. The student receives help in creative develop- ment and course selection. Exhibits and research papers con- cerning the area are required. Summer workshops are advisable as they are a review as well as a preparatory class for the stu- dent. HE goals of the home economics class are to develop abil- ities for home responsibilities in relation to food and cloth- ing Under the help of the teachers, the girls developed a better understanding of habits, attitudes, and ideals needed to run a home and bring up a family. ln the foods department, a girl learns attractive ways to serve a dinner and plans nutritious meals. Sewing acquaints a girl with pattern pieces, choosing material, and most important, making her own clothes, Sandy Miller and Teresa Kappa mix various ingredients to make corn pudding. 29
