Students are taught to work for neatness and accuracy, and then to try to increase speed. Business education c l a s s e s, open to sophomores, Juniors, and seniors, were designed for those students who did not plan to con- tinue their schooling after grad- uation, as well as those who did plan to go on to business colleges. First year typing was designed to teach students to type with ac- curacy and fluency, Second year students were taught the use of calculating machines. Shorthand students learned to take dictation accurately and rapidly. T h e i r notes were then transcribed into readable letters. Bookkeeping s t u d e n t s were taught how to keep business rec- ords and how to prepare special bookkeeping forms. Clerical of- fice practice trained the students in filing, keeping records, tran- scribing with the use of the dic- taphone and ediphorie, and gen- eral knowledge of calculating ma- chines. Business English classes taught fundamental business grammar to its students. The girls also learn- ed how to write effective applica- tion letters and how to prepare for personal interviews.
